"Code name, Cataract. Hayward wasn't decommissioning Vision. He was trying to bring him back online."
Jimmy Woo to Monica Rambeau[src]

Project Cataract was a S.W.O.R.D. project led by Tyler Hayward in order to reactivate Vision following his death in the Battle of Wakanda.

History[]

"We're dismantling the most sophisticated, sentient weapon ever made."
"But Vision's not a weapon. You can't do this."
"In fact, it is our legal and ethical obligation."
Tyler Hayward and Wanda Maximoff[src]

Following Vision's death in the Battle of Wakanda, S.W.O.R.D. obtained his body and stored it at S.W.O.R.D. Headquarters. After the death of Maria Rambeau, Tyler Hayward was made Acting Director of S.W.O.R.D. and shifted their operations from manned operations to A.I. and nanotechnology, wishing to create a sentient weapon. To this extent he started Project Cataract, which involved disassembling Vision's corpse to study it and eventually reactivate him to serve as S.W.O.R.D.'s sentient weapon,[1] despite his actions being illegal as it was in violation of the Sokovia Accords.[2]

S.W.O.R.D. attempted to use various energy sources to reactivate Vision, to no avail, forcing them to constantly disassemble and reassemble the synthezoid's corpse, eventually turning Vision's body white. After Hayward and S.W.O.R.D. were brought to Westview to deal with Wanda Maximoff and the Westview Anomaly, Hayward sent a Stark Industries drone to kill Maximoff. However, Maximoff used her magic to disable the drone and returned it to Hayward. Noticing that the drone retained sources of Maximoff's magic, Hayward ordered his team to transfer the magical energy from the drone to White Vision's body, successfully reactivating him.[1]
