Watching this before Furiosa was released, you would look at the way Furiosa looks at Max here and think she’s recognizing in him her first ever accomplice. Watching it after Furiosa, she’s now looking at him as if he’s her second. In a kind of way, I was thinking that now Fury Road is no longer the original with a prequel but a sequel to the original (or maybe I was just high).
This time I felt the compounding tension created in just a few edits and seconds. As the raiders demand their oil from Furiosa, the war parties approach, and just as those two things come dangerously close, one of the wives feels her baby kick in her womb. Or how Furiosa catches Max’s foot to save him, then she gets almost fatally stabbed, then it cuts to one of the wives being threatened in the car beside them. Great “you gotta be kidding me” tension layering.
And this time I caught a line about how bullets are the antiseed, plant one and watch something die.
