Tino Pecchia🏳️🌈’s review published on Letterboxd:
I love the smell of free Cinematheque tickets in the morning. I'm proud of myself for finally reading one of those e-mails stating when they are on sale. Sometimes, I like to use the opportunity to watch films I've never seen, and sometimes, the chance to re-watch one of my favourite films is just as special. Mad Max: Fury Road is one of my favourite films because it captures the feeling of pure adrenaline. I want to play a flamethrower guitar on a platform strapped on a moving car with spikes. The beauty of the action comes from a perception of simplicity. George Miller directs the action like it is a bombastic opera. The sound design behind each vehicle clashing, metallic object clanging, and every explosion are some of the best technical aspects I've heard in an action movie. It gives everything a sense of weight. It's lean and concise in its approach to the structure of the action, and the overt feminist themes of the film. The men are conditioned into becoming soldiers and the women are forced to be breeders. Furiosa (Charlize Theron) is helping a harem escape from their captor and flee to a utopia run by women. Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga made me appreciate Charlize Theron's performance because she does a better job at portraying a woman burdened by the weight of the world than Anya Taylor Joy. She looks like a person who has seen things beyond human comprehension. It's a masterpiece of the action genre and blockbuster filmmaking.
