Metal. As. Fuck. A little known piece of trivia is that Mad Max: Fury Road is the 2nd greatest film ever made & is certainly the pinnacle of western action cinema. Now, I have been known to exaggerate from time to time but I'm also never wrong despite all attempts from Katie to dispute that F A C T.
Fury Road. A cinematic symphony of destruction & a total assault on every single sense you possess. It's like a constant adrenaline rush mainlined straight through your fucking eyes with unbridled chaos & pure passionate filmmaking. The amount of visual information George Miller crams in is crazy, the man is obsessed with storytelling & building myths.
Now, I don't use these words alot but it's fucking awesome. It's one of those films where every time I watch it I'm both amazed it ever got made & in awe of what was achieved because this beast is fucking insane. Constantly moving from one practical action beat to the next, energy & intensity bursting from every frame in the most efficient manner possible taking The Road Warrior route of story through action & reaction. It's almost like the stunt crew were out to one up each other each time & it gives the action real, tanglible weight & impact. Beyond all the badass stunt work, vehicular mayhem & many explosions, the visuals are routinely stunning. Stark contrasts & vibrant hues giving life to the vast, desolate wastes Max finds himself in & like the previous films, the 4K looks fucking sick.
Charlize Theron etches herself into the halls of cinemas most badass heroes, she makes Furiosa a force of nature, driven by the hope of something better for others much like Max was driven by his own self-serving will to survive. As good as it would be having Mel Gibson in this, the combination of Theron & Hardy compensate for not having him there. Max was far removed from his Road Warrior character in Beyond Thunderdome so I don't really have an issue with Hardy taking over the role as another chapter is the Max mythos, he's suitably gruff & has the look down acting as more of a conduit for us to Furiosas story anyway but that shit works, the whole fucking movie works & I love every second of it.
I really don't know how to make these reviews more concise, I'm not saying anything you don't already know so I will stop but....It's worth repeating that George Miller is a fucking genius & I seriously hope Furiosa can live up to this.
