Ein vielschichtiges, mit audiovisueller Brillanz dynamisch durch die Zeiten wandelndes cineastisches Erlebnis über Leben, Wirken und Schicksal des theoretischen Physikers Julius Robert Oppenheimer, der maßgeblich an der Entwicklung der Atombombe beteiligt war. Oder anders formuliert: Ein Biopic wie OPPENHEIMER hat man so zuvor noch nie gesehen. Obwohl manches fragmentarisch bleibt, beeindruckt der erfrischend andere Blick auf eine bedeutende, ambivalente Persönlichkeit – und die außergewöhnliche Form, mit der sich Regisseur Christopher Nolan ihr annähert. Immersives, relevantes und nachhaltiges Kino, vielleicht nicht Nolans bester Film, aber sein reifster.

A multi-layered cinematic experience that moves dynamically through the ages with audiovisual brilliance about the life, work and fate of the theoretical physicist Julius Robert Oppenheimer, who was instrumental in the development of the atomic bomb. Or to put it another way: A biopic like OPPENHEIMER has never been seen before. Although some things remain fragmentary, the refreshingly different view of an important, ambivalent personality – and the extraordinary form with which director Christopher Nolan approaches it – is impressive. Immersive, relevant and lasting cinema, perhaps not Nolan‘s best film, but his most mature.
