What the World Needs Now by Jackie DeShannon is featured in What the World Needs Now, the sixth episode of Season Six. It is sung by Will, the Alumni and the New Directions, with solos from Artie, Blaine, Kurt, Mercedes, Rachel, Sam, and Will.
Santana and Brittany walk to the auditorium where they are escorted to their seats by Spencer. Artie, as wedding planner, rolls onto the stage and announces there's a problem, there's an empty seat at the wedding reception because Alma Lopez is not coming. He adds that the problem is adding more chairs for more members of their family. Will, Mercedes, Rachel, Kurt, Sam, Blaine, and Kitty show up, and give the definition of "family". Mercedes starts to sing as everyone comes to the stage. Everyone is then seen together at Will's apartment, where he opens the door to Santana and Brittany. They greet Will and Daniel. Sam and Rachel talk while Mercedes looks at them happily. Artie hands a pie to Kitty, and she smiles, indicating they're on good terms now. Kurt opens the door to find Blaine coming alone, not with Dave. The scene cuts back to the auditorium, where they finish the song and gather around Brittany and Santana for a group hug.
