Land of Inhuman Demons (Part 1) (人外魔境(其の一), Jingai Makyō (Sono Ichi)?) is the 58th episode of Bungo Stray Dogs anime series and the eighth episode of the fifth season.
Synopsis[]
Kenji fights to help Atsushi, demonstrating why he is one of the most dangerous Agency members. Meanwhile, Dazai's machinations within the prison become clearer.[1]
Summary[]
Atsushi begrudgingly piggybacks Teruko on their way to rendezvous with Ranpo. She briefly mentions Jōno's disappearance, prompting Atsushi to realize that she would not have told him about it and would instead attack him if the Hunting Dogs believed that the Agency was indeed behind his disappearance. She notices Atsushi's hint of suspicion and quickly strikes him with her whip, then de-ages and incapacitates him.
Turning his attention to Jōno over justice for the time being, Tetchō presses Kenji about his friend's whereabouts, asserting that Jōno is a misunderstood protector of the powerless. Teruko radios Tetchō that she shall bring Atsushi to torture and interrogation; Kenji overhears the message and turns menacingly intent to help out as he kicks Tetchō off the building with a powerful attack. Kenji, overcome with fury courtesy of his ability, effortlessly overwhelms Tetchō.
In a flashback, Kunikida told Atsushi that Yokohama's unwritten rule is never to anger Kenji. He also explained that his ability grants him the power of nature's forces, which allowed Kenji in the past to divert a harsh mudslide away from his village with his bare hands, albeit his friend being part of the casualty that the boy claims to have no memory of. Kenji had since contained such fury within all creation beneath his docile demeanor, only coming out when he gets cornered by danger.
Tetchō, thrashed by Kenji, asks the detective to kill him, deeming himself unfit to be a Hunting Dog for misjudging Jōno, justice, and Kenji altogether. However, Kenji reverts to his typical gentleness and discerns that he has no reason to be angry at Tetchō, volunteering instead to help search for Jōno. They soon introduce themselves amicably and doze off in exhaustion. Meanwhile, Dazai reveals to Sigma that he unorthodoxly communicates with Ango while inside Meursault and plans to kill Fyodor instead of escaping.
Fyodor and Chūya are soon trapped after inputting an invalid passcode, triggering Meursault's defenses and flooding the area in heavy water. In addition to Chūya's inability to get past the anti-gifted walls, Dazai's other trump card is a criminal ability user who can briefly stop time in a given area, allowing Dazai to move around the prison as he nullifies its effect. As the only one who could move then, he had knocked down the central surveillance room's guards and changed the security passcodes.
As Dazai and Sigma arrive at the surveillance room, Dazai converses with Fyodor about his impending loss, given the circumstances against him, and bids farewell to Chūya as the two appear to drown. Aya and Bram hide inside a truck and wait to be snuck out of the airport, where Bram tells Aya about the origins of the Holy Sword Soluz Levni that was a former human. Meanwhile, Atsushi wakes up restrained elsewhere, and Akutagawa finds Aya and Bram.
