Black-armour

Black Armour is the use of Zero-Mass blocks to protect against Cannonballs.

Background[]

  • Zero-Mass blocks don't transfer force. They also don't collide with anything - except for cannonballs, because cannonballs have collision prediction. They will never phase through other objects at high speed.
    • (Because of this, Black Armour has limited use - it can block cannonballs, nullify arrow and water/steam particle force, and detonate/break bombs and boulders. It can't defend against block-based weapons.)
  • A cannonball that impacts a zero-mass block will freeze itself and the block in place, up to a point. The cannonball still has 'potential' momentum, and will continue on its path if the zero-mass block bends or is otherwise 'moved' out of the way. However, it will bleed that momentum due to drag, and eventually fall to the ground.
  • Setting the zero-mass block to a near-zero thickness makes it rigid enough to be practical, among other things which are covered in the next section.

Usage[]

Black-armour-comparison

The difference between using a Spinning Block and not using one.

Place a scaling block with zero mass and near-zero scale on the Z axis. Scale it so it covers the entire vehicle.

  • Attaching it to a Spinning Block (or other rotating block) makes it more effective (i.e. the difference between taking a 100x shot and a 1000x shot).
  • Attaching Braces to the Spinning Block will also increase the power the plate can hold back.

On impact, the scaling block will freeze visually on impact, but it will stop blocking and return to where it should be when its collider would have moved out of the way if it wasn't frozen.

Black-armour-trajectory

The red path is where the cannonball goes if the vehicle moves away from the cannon, and the green path is if the vehicle moves towards it.

Once frozen, move horizontally or at an angle towards the cannonball. Unless the scaling block is much wider or longer than the vehicle it's attached to, moving away from it will leave some of the vehicle in the cannonball's path when the scaling block is moved out of the way.
Overlapping plates of Black Armour can help with this - as one plate moves out of the way, the next plate is there to catch it.

Trivia[]

  • The name 'Black Armour' comes from the fact that blocks with zero scale on one axis usually turn black because of rendering issues.
