Peter Tom was a judge on the New York Supreme Court, Appellate Division, First Department. He was appointed to this position by Governor Cuomo in 1994. He was first elected to the Supreme Court in 1990 and was retained by voters in 2004. Tom retired in November 2019.

Education

Judge Tom was born in 1947. He earned a B.A. degree from The City College of New York and a J.D. degree in 1975 from Brooklyn Law School.

Career

Judge Tom began his legal career in 1975 as a private practice lawyer. The following year, he became a law clerk on the New York City Civil Court. He became a judge on the Housing Part of the Civil Court in 1985. In 1988, he was elected to the Civil Court and was assigned to preside over the Narcotics Eviction Part. He was elected to the Supreme Court of the State of New York in 1990 and served in New York County until he was appointed to the Appellate Division in 1994.
