Eugene L. Nardelli was a judge on the New York Supreme Court, Appellate Division, First Department. He was designated to this position in April of 1993. Prior to this, he was a State Supreme Court Justice in New York County (1st Judicial District). He served as an acting justice of this court from 1981 through 1985, before becoming a justice on January 1, 1986. In 1999, he was retained by voters to another full term,[1] which ended on December 31, 2013.[2][3] However, Nardelli reached the age of mandatory retirement before completing his term. He retired from the Appellate Division in 2010.[3]
Education
Judge Nardelli received his B.S. degree from Fordham College in 1956 and his J.D. from Fordham University School of Law in 1960. He also served in the Army Reserve.[3]
Career
Judge Nardelli began his legal career in 1960 as an attorney with the law firm Nardelli & Nardelli. In 1964, he became legal counsel to the New York City Housing and Redevelopment Neighborhood Conservation Bureau. He then worked as a law secretary to John Leonforte of the State Supreme Court from 1968 to 1975. During this time, from 1970 to 1975, he also served as an arbitrator for the Small Claims Part of the New York Civil Court. He became a judge on the New York City Civil court in January of 1975. After ten years in this position, he was appointed Justice of the Supreme Court of New York County. He had previously served as an acting justice of the Supreme Court since 1981. In 1993, he was designated to the appellate division and he served as the acting Presiding Justice of the First Department for three months in 2002 and also in 2003.[3]
