Karla Moskowitz was a judge on the New York Supreme Court, Appellate Division. She was appointed acting supreme court justice in 1987 and was elected to the Supreme Court in 1991. In 2005, she was retained by voters for another full term.[1][2] She was appointed to the Appellate Division in January of 2008.[3] Moskowitz retired in 2017.[4]
Education
Judge Moskowitz received a B.A. degree from Alfred University in 1963 and a J.D. from Columbia Law School in 1966.[3][5]
Career
Judge Moskowitz worked as an assistant to the First Assistant Attorney General from 1966 to 1970. She then worked as associate counsel to the New York City Human Resources Administration (1970-1974) and to the New York Health and Hospitals Corporation (1974-1975). After this, she helped run the firm Moskowitz and Moll until 1980. During her time at the law firm, she also worked as a hearing officer for the NYC Board of Education (1976-1980) and an administrative law judge for the New York State Department of Health (1978-1981). She judged on the Civil Court from 1982 to 1991 while serving as an acting supreme court justice from 1987 to 1991. She was elected to the State Supreme Court (1991) and appointed to the Appellate Division (2008).[3][5]
