Michael A. Jackson (Democratic Party) is a member of the Maryland State Senate, representing District 27. He assumed office on January 13, 2021. His current term ends on January 13, 2027.
Jackson (Democratic Party) ran for re-election to the Maryland State Senate to represent District 27. He won in the general election on November 8, 2022.
On January 13, 2021, Gov. Larry Hogan (R) appointed Jackson to the Maryland State Senate to fill the seat left vacant by Thomas Miller Jr.'s (D) resignation. The Democratic central committees of Prince George's, Calvert, and Charles counties recommended Jackson to the position the weekend prior to the official appointment.[1]
Jackson previously represented District 27B in the Maryland House of Delegates from 2015 to 2021.
Biography
Michael A. Jackson was born in Cheverly, Maryland. Jackson served in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve from 1982 to 1985. He earned a B.S. in electronic engineering and technical management from DeVry Institute of Technology in 1986 and an M.S. in police executive leadership from Johns Hopkins University.[2]
Jackson's career experience includes working as the sheriff of Prince George's County, the director of the executive development institute with the Maryland Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services, and a special assistant for homeland security to the Prince George's County executive. He served as the president of the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #112 and the Maryland Sheriffs' Association.[2]

The filing deadline for candidates wishing to run in this election was February 25, 2014. Michael A. Jackson defeated LaRhonda R. Owens and Jacqueline D. Steele McCall in the Democratic primary, while Philip A. Parenti defeated Toni Jarboe-Duley by 17 votes in the Republican primary. Jackson defeated Parenti in the general election.[4][5]
