GRADE 3
I. OBJECTIVES:
a. identify common nouns and proper nouns;
b. use common and proper nouns in simple sentence (EN3G-If-2.2);
c. appreciate the importance of nouns in our daily life.
II. SUBJECT MATTER:
TOPIC: Common and Proper Nouns

A. PRELIMINARY ACTIVITIES
I. Prayer

I will be dividing the whole class into 2 groups.

Task:
Each group will be given an assigned
WORDSCAPE PUZZLE. Then, you must
rearrange the letters to form words. This will be
a guide to fill out the word puzzle. Do this on
three (3) minutes only.

Around us we see so many things and
everything that we see has some names. Let us
come now to the kinds of nouns.

Two kinds of Noun:


a. Common Nouns – are the general generic
name of person, place, animals, and things.
They are not capitalized unless they come at the
beginning of a sentence.
b. Proper Nouns – are the names of specific
people, places, things, or idea.
Proper Nouns should always be capitalized.

Nouns identify people, places, things, and ideas.

Common nouns are just that – common. They


do name anything or anyone specifically while
proper nouns do name specific people, places
and things.
In simple words, common nouns are general
name and are not capitalized. On the other
hand, proper nouns are specific name and it
should always be capitalized, no matter where
they land in a sentence. Do you understand,
class? Yes, Ma’am!
F. APPLICATION
For your group activity, I will be dividing you into
four (4) groups. This activity is called <Is it
Common Noun or Proper Noun?=.

• Each group should have a cardboard and RULES:


chalk that will be use in the activity.
• You will guess if the words that has given Be ready!
is a common noun or proper noun.
Be attentive!
• The group that has highest score will
receive a prize. Cooperation is the key!
