My Educational Philosophy

I believe teachers give our children more than just knowledge about school. Teachers also

give students knowledge about things that are happening in the world around us now; helping

them to be prepared for what they will have to take on after they graduate school. I learned many

things from my teachers in school that helped me tremendously.

There are many principles that teachers use to guide them: keeping in contact with

students and staff, being able to talk to the students is important, building a rapport with them

helps build that trust, and encourage them to build a rapport with their fellow classmates and

other faculty members. Re-word the next two sentences and merge them together Getting

students to be cooperative in groups, working as a team, helps kids look at other aspects of what

their group members do. Get students to join groups on campus, such as the yearbook, math

clubs, spelling bee and even sports. There are so many choices. The more they join in, the more

they will communicate with their peers and help them with cooperation with their classmates as

well.

As a teacher aide, I have had the chance to watch and follow many teachers in different

grades, as well as sections. I have seen, hands on, how important teachers are and their purposes.

I have seen many teachers sit down with students and talk to them about confidence because,

many students lack confidence in their schoolwork. Teachers are always encouraging their

students to do the best they can and to always have confidence in their work. I know when I am

helping a student with their work, I always tell them having confidence in your work will get you

a long way. I also believe that teachers are one of the many reasons many kids are ready for the

real-world responsibilities. Teachers also have to get students ready before they go off on their

own, just like their parents do. Giving students the responsibilities such as doing homework and

turning it in when it is due, teaching them how to be prepared for a test, and teaching them that

they have to be responsible for having all their supplies.(great points in this paragraph)

When someone truly learns something, it is like a light went off when they really

understand what they just learned. I love when teachers are going over something with a class

and they are trying their best to explain something and when they finally have the student’s

attention, you can see the students facial expressions immediately change. When a student learns

something new, everything changes. Students that have not quite learned the material just go

through the motions or look very frustrated. Students that have learned and understand what they

are working on usually are the ones that do not ask questions unless they are just wanting

someone to look over the work they just did. I remember subbing for a math teacher and she had

different word problems for the kids. There was one girl that no matter how many times you

explained it to her she just did not understand. Finally, the teacher figured out the best way to

show her and have it stick in her brain. It was like she was a different student when she was able

to finally understand.

When I become a teacher, I plan to use many things that I have learned from other

teachers. Doing group activities and group projects, help students with their communication

skills, as well as speech skills. Another technique I would use in my classroom would be having

the students do a five-minute focus to get them ready for class. This will help the students by

having them focus on things that I would be going over for that class and see where they are at in

their knowledge of the subject. I am going to be encouraging them to do their best on everything

and to give 100% effort, because if they do not live up to their potential they will just be holding

themselves back from being what I know each student can be. I have dyslexia, and it was one of

the hardest things holding me back in school. I am far from the best reader, but I always put forth

the effort to do my best. I encourage the students that I am working with to do the same. I even

tell my oldest in school he can do anything if he actually puts forth the effort and tries his best,

because if you fail then that is one way you know not to do. If you succeed nothing can stop you.

Teachers are important in our children's lives. They give them more than just knowledge,

they give them hope, encouragement and help them see their potential that the student does not

see in themselves. I cannot wait to be a teacher, spreading school knowledge and life knowledge

to kids and helping them succeed in whatever they put their minds to.
