Republic Act 1425 or commonly known as “Rizal’s Law” was authored by Senator Claro Mayo
Recto and assigned by the president on June 12, 1956. The passing of the Rizal Law gave rise to
the implementation of the Rizal course as a requirement for graduation in all degree and non-
degree courses in tertiary education. According to the Official Gazette, the law was made
effective on August 16, 1956.

Republic, since the administration of President Diosdado Macapagal (1961 – 1965),
Laurel has been officially recognized by later administration as a former president of the
Philippines.
