Submissions

At Mochi Magazine, we are dedicated to amplifying the voices and nuanced experiences of Asian American communities. Our readers range from teenagers to young professionals, united by their desire to explore and celebrate being Asian American.

We welcome submissions for our popular columns, “Our Voices” and “Black Allyship @ Mochi.”

Our Voices

The “Our Voices” column serves as a platform for Asian Americans to share personal narratives, thought-provoking essays, and insightful commentary on issues that matter to our communities. Whether you’re exploring themes of identity, culture, or social justice, we encourage you to submit pieces that resonate with our readers and spark meaningful conversations.

Black Allyship @ Mochi

Our “Black Allyship @ Mochi” (BA@M) column is a space for Asian American and BIPOC writers, leaders, and allies to engage in solidarity with the Black community. The articles, resources, and opinions we share are a call to action, an open discussion about learning and unlearning, and a place to take a stance against anti-Black racism. In this column, we do not seek to gloss over the tensions between Asian American and Black communities, but to foster healing, partnership, and solidarity. We seek submissions that address intersectionality, dismantle anti-Blackness within our communities, and promote understanding and unity across diverse racial and ethnic groups. Learn more about the BA@M column through our mission statement and find examples of articles we’ve shared.

In addition to these columns, we are always on the lookout for fresh voices and unique perspectives. Whether you have a compelling personal story, an insightful analysis of current events, or a creative piece that celebrates Asian American and BIPOC artistry, we welcome your submissions. Our goal is to create a vibrant and inclusive platform that reflects the richness and diversity of our communities.

At this time, we are only able to accept fully drafted submissions. We do not review or accept click-through links, guest posts, and collaborations. We are grateful for all submissions but are unable to compensate guest contributors at this time as a volunteer-run publication. We either accept as is, with a few edits, or reject pieces. Please note that we do not accept directly transcribed interviews, i.e. Q&As style articles. If your piece is rejected, it’s usually due to a lack of capacity from our staff to get the pieces to where they need to be for our audience.

Since we are an all-volunteer staff, please give us up to two months to respond to your submission. That isn’t to say that we don’t commit to timelines and work towards milestones, but that our shared vision and goals are built and conceived through accountability, trust, and collaboration as well as flexibility and grace. We appreciate your understanding!
