Ingredients

Original recipe (1X) yields 12 servings

  • 1 ¼ cups milk

  • 1 ¼ cups white sugar, or to taste, divided

  • 1 ¼ cups baking mix (such as Bisquick ®)

  • ½ cup butter, softened

  • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon

  • ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg

  • 4 cups pitted cherries

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease a 9-inch square baking dish.

  2. Mix milk, 3/4 cup sugar, baking mix, butter, cinnamon, and nutmeg together in a large bowl. Pour batter into the prepared baking dish.

  3. Mix remaining 1/2 cup sugar with cherries in a bowl. Spoon on top of the batter in the baking dish.

  4. Bake in the preheated oven until golden brown, 45 to 50 minutes.

Cook's Note:

Substitute margarine for the butter if desired.
