Claude-Achille Debussy (French: [klod aʃil dəbysi]; 22 August 1862 – 25 March 1918) was a French composer. Along with Maurice Ravel, he was one of the most prominent figures associated with Impressionist music, though he himself disliked the term when applied to his compositions. He was made Chevalier of the Legion of Honour in his native France in 1903. Debussy was among the most influential composers of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, and his use of non-traditional scales and chromaticism influenced many composers who followed.
Debussy's music is noted for its sensory content and frequent usage of nontraditional tonalities. The prominent French literary style of his period was known as Symbolism, and this movement directly inspired Debussy both as a composer and as an active cultural participant.
Don Quichotte (Don Quixote) is an opera in five acts by Jules Massenet to a French libretto by Henri Caïn. It was first performed on 19 February 1910 at the Opéra de Monte-Carlo.
Massenet's comédie-héroïque, like so many other dramatized versions of the story of Don Quixote, relates only indirectly to the great novel Don Quixote by Miguel de Cervantes. The immediate inspiration was Le chevalier de la longue figure, a play by the poet Jacques Le Lorrain first performed in Paris in 1904. In this version of the story, the simple farm girl Aldonza (Dulcinea) of the original novel becomes the more sophisticated Dulcinée, a flirtatious local beauty inspiring the infatuated old man's exploits.
Conceiving originally Don Quichotte to be a three-act opera, Massenet started to compose it in 1909 at a time when, suffering from acute rheumatic pains, he spent more of his time in bed than out of it, and composition of Don Quichotte became, in his words, a sort of "soothing balm." In order to concentrate on that new work, he interrupted composition of his other opera, Bacchus. Despite its five acts, there is under two hours of music in the opera.
Don Quixote, fully El ingenioso hidalgo Don Quijote de la Mancha, is a classic novel by Miguel de Cervantes, originally published in two parts, in 1605 and 1615.
Don Quixote (with variations in spelling) may also refer to:
Claude Debussy (22 August 1862 – 25 March 1918) was a French composer. He is sometimes seen as the first Impressionist composer, although he vigorously rejected the term. He was among the most influential composers of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Born to a family of modest means and little cultural involvement, Debussy showed enough musical talent to be admitted at the age of ten to France's leading music college, the Conservatoire de Paris. He originally studied the piano, but found his vocation in innovative composition, despite the disapproval of the Conservatoire's conservative professors. He took many years to develop his mature style, and was nearly 40 when he achieved international fame in 1902 with the only opera he completed, Pelléas et Mélisande. Debussy's orchestral...

Steinway Artist Pascal Rogé, a master of French piano repertoire, performs Debussy‘s immortal “Clair de Lune” at New York City’s Steinway Hall. The celebrated movement from Debussy‘s “Suite Bergamasque” was originally titled “Promenade sentimental”; Debussy‘s suite was inspired by the poetry of Paul Verlaine. Drenched in the light of the moon: Claude Debussy’s “Clair de lune” is an ode to the night sky. It’s one of the French composer’s best-known pieces and it was given an emotional interpretation on 17 October 2012 at a concert in the Salle Pleyel in Paris by piano virtuoso Menahem Pressler (1923 - 2023), who was almost 90 years old at the time. The French composer Claude Debussy (1862 – 1918) is a representative of musical Impressionism. Debussy was fond of subject matter from nature such as sea, clouds and snow and attempted to inject these phenomena of nature with musical character, whereby a formal freedom was of particular importance to him. Claude Debussy was an individualist who wasn’t afraid to ruffle feathers. He started getting noticed in 1894 with the orchestral work “Prélude à l´...
Multi-award-winning conductor Bernard Haitink leads the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra in the Concertgebouw Amsterdam. They perform Claude Debussy's 'La mer, trois esquisses symphoniques pour orchestre,' known simply as 'La mer.' Claude Debussy (1862 - 1918) wrote this composition of 'three symphonic sketches' between 1903 and 1905. Upon its premiere in Paris in October 1905, it was not well-received, provoking confusion and dismay among both audience and critics. But after performances in the United States and Britain, it was performed again in Paris in 1908, and then quickly became one of Debussy's most famous and admired orchestral works. Along with Debussy's 'Nocturnes,' 'La mer' exemplifies musical Impressionism and serves as a transition between the Romantic and modern eras. Berna...

I got a fire burning,
I feel it buried deep inside
Taking everything we've got
Like a thief at night
We'll keep the world from turning,
Oh if it's all that we've got left
To find our way out of the dark
To get into the light
The finish line is at your door,
Is that what you're waiting for?
Throw your head up in the sky,
It's unmistakable that we will go
Look the fear in the eye tonight
Now we're unbreakable
Now we're unbreakable
Now we're unbreakable
I feel the stakes are rising
And it's long since overdue
Oh I swear we'll never
Know where it's leading to
We'll keep this ship from sinking
If it's all that we've got left
As I almost reach the end
I finally see this through
Don't wait for time to save you
Throw your head up in the sky,
It's unmistakable that we will go
Look the fear in the eye tonight
Now we're unbreakable
We fight, we crawl, we slip and take the fall
Anything to make it through somehow
We climb, lose control, we trip and hit the wall
Oh time and the season's the reason I can see it now
Throw your head up in the sky,
Now we're unbreakable
Throw your head up in the sky,
It's unmistakable that we will go
Look the fear in the eye tonight
Now we're unbreakable
Now we're unbreakable
Now we're unbreakable
Now we're unbreakable
