Villain Overview

Have some candy!
~ King Candy's catchphrase.
I'm Turbo, the greatest racer ever! And I did not reprogram this world to let you, and that halitosis-riddled warthogTAKE IT AWAY FROM ME!!!
~ Turbo's true colors when his identity is revealed to Vanellope after he accidentally reverts to his true form, also his most famous quote.

Turbo, also known under his Sugar Rush persona King Candy, is the main antagonist of Disney's 52nd full-length animated feature film Wreck-It Ralph.

He was originally the titular racer of the in-universe arcade game TurboTime before he abandoned it to take over the more popular RoadBlasters simply out of envy, leading to Roadblasters crashing and both of the games getting put out of order, inspiring the phrase, "going Tubo". Following this, Turbo infiltrated the world of Sugar Rush under a false identity so he could maintain his popularity. He is the former boss of Sour Bill, Wynnchel, Duncan and briefly the Cy-Bugs, as well as the arch-nemesis of Vanellope von Schweetz and Wreck-It Ralph, the movie's titular character.

He was voiced by Alan Tudyk, who also voiced Lenny and Dab the Dodo in Ice Age, Duke of Weselton in Frozen, Alistair Krei in Big Hero 6 and its spinoff TV series, Duke Weaselton in Zootopia, House Of Tomorrow’s A.I. in The Wonderful World of Mickey Mouse, Ludo Avarius in Star Vs. The Forces of Evil, and Van Wayne in Powerless.

Physical appearance

As Turbo

Turbo was a short and stocky man with pale gray skin, bright yellow glowing eyes with black pupils and no visible irises, and tombstone-like yellow teeth. He also had what appeared to be dark eye bags and laugh lines around his mouth giving his face an overall skeletal look. His entire head was covered by a white racing helmet that was painted with a red signature "T" for Turbo and he wore a matching jumpsuit and sneakers. On the Turbo Time cabinet, he had a look somewhat differing from his actual of having a more cartoony face, and black eyes with white sclera and didn’t have any eye bags, in-line with white teeth, and his helmet was painted with a red streak in the center, and had white skin instead of grey.

After reverting to his original form his body glitched in a manner similar to Vanellope's though with the exceptions of a red flashing effect and switching between pixelated and realistic versions of himself followed by his alternate persona.

As King Candy

King Candy was a bald white-skinned old man with gray hair tufts and eyebrows. He had beady brown eyes and a cartoonishly large bulbous nose. The king's most notable feature would be his tiny golden crown usually slanted atop his large head. He wore a purple tailcoat with a white shirt and glitter-covered vest with a lace collar and cufflinks. There were also two golden buttons on the back of the tailcoat. Another notable feature would be his red bowtie which resembled a candy wrapper. He also wore poofy gold-and-caramel pants and purple slippers with red gumdrops at the tip that jingled whenever he moved frantically. During the races, he would don a particular racing outfit that consisted of his prominent outfit along with brown gloves, a large gold-and-caramel helmet, and black racing goggles with red-tinted lenses. His kart, formerly and originally Vanellope's seemed to be made almost completely out of sugar. In most promotional materials King Candy was seen with his miniature candy cane which was only featured briefly in the film during the Random Roster Race.

As a Cy-Bug

As a Cy-Bug, Turbo was about 30 feet (9 meters) long. He had the body structure of a cockroach or silverfish, could curl into a ball for protection like an armadillo or pill bug or attacking and had a neck made of Smarties tablets that could expand in length. His face (especially) now looks puppet-like. Also, in his King Candy face, his teeth have been filled to sharp points. His colors consisted of mostly purple, orange, and pink and the tips of his claws had a darker tone of purple. He also gained six orange striped legs, four large ones and two smaller ones on his chest. His head also sported purple markings which were also on his face along with a yellow marking under his crown. King Candy's crown also changed now having a spiky appearance and apparently becoming a permanent part of his body. With his transformation, he gained sugar-coated hot pink wings for flight that could fold in and out at will. Whenever his Cy-Bug programming occurred, King Candy's eyes turned blue and pixelated while the Turbo persona remained unchanged. King Candy also retained his cufflinks, lace collar, and bowtie.

Personality

In the beginning, Turbo was already quite arrogant and self-centered. He adored the attention his fans gave him and the praise that came with being the star of the most popular console in the arcade and became extremely jealous and enraged when another game arrived to steal the attention from him. Having adopted an inflated ego, he became obsessed with preserving his popularity and was deathly determined to remain, in his own words, "the greatest racer ever", even if it meant taking over other games and risking innocents in the process (given the audience didn't know much about him before he became King Candy, it's likely that he didn't know what would happen since he never intended to crash RoadBlasters while trying to take over it, but it's not like he cared about).

That said, after somehow surviving the incident, instead of learning from his mistake and feeling remorse for his actions, Turbo continued his quest to regain the popularity that he had lost. To this end, he was willing to invade yet another racing game to take it over, but in a more subtle way: he created a new persona for himself to fit amongst its residents, and even attempted to delete (in other words, murder) the original main character of the game, Vanellope Von Schweetz, in order to take her place. When he failed to delete her, he then took advantage of her corrupted code by locking away the memories of the inhabitants and then lying to everyone that she was a glitch that was never meant to exist, and that her existence was a threat to the game itself, causing her to become an outcast and allowing him to usurp her place as the game's ruler.

Afterward, he spent the latter half of his life as King Candy, the eccentric and flamboyant ruler of Sugar Rush. With a penchant for giggling King Candy carried himself with bubbly yet posh conduct, giving off the impression that he was a benevolent and fun-loving ruler (his favorite pastime apart from racing included throwing candy to his adoring fans while shouting "Have some candy!"). He was the character with the highest stats, especially in speed, was always selected by default and adored by the other racers, particularly Taffyta Muttonfudge. But underneath this jovial image, he remained vain and corrupt. He was extremely possessive of his stolen game, demanding that he be addressed as the "rightful ruler" whenever introduced, and flaunted his status by having his trademark and likeness plastered everywhere. Whenever threatened, his cheerful demeanor became ruthless and violent. Coupled with his short temper, this hinted at his true nature. He also showed signs of sadism, being particularly fond of locking others in his "Fungeon". Furthermore, while he isn't stated to have condoned Vanellope's mistreatment, he did nothing to stop it and was the one who made her a "glitch" in the first place.

King Candy was also an enormous hypocrite, as upon hearing that Ralph had game-jumped to Hero's Duty to win a medal, he quickly accused Ralph of "Going Turbo" with plans of taking over his game and instantly blew up at him in anger - despite having done the very same thing himself. This might have been a part of his King Candy façade to feign concern for Ralph before condemning his actions straight away, or that he was that possessive over Sugar Rush that he would instantly jump to defend it from someone like him, even though the game wasn't his from the beginning, displaying how greedy, selfish and shameless he really is.

King Candy's most essential attribute was his intelligence and cunning. With this, he was able to survive and remain in power for a total of 15 years. He was also cunning and deceptive, exploiting his new appearance and charisma to manipulate those around him into believing his actions were for the purpose of keeping others safe. An example of this is when he manipulated Ralph into keeping Vanellope from racing, claiming that the game and her life would be at risk should she ever do so. As mentioned above, he tricked the other racers into believing he was a benevolent leader.

Upon his true identity being exposed and his transformation into a Cy-Bug, Turbo's aggressiveness immediately skyrocketed, going from being a deceptive con-artist to a literal tyrannical monster. With his new form, as well his new army, he sought to rule not only Sugar Rush, but the entire arcade and was looking forward to doing so; he even planned on killing both Ralph and Vanellope, not only for revenge for exposing his identity, but also for the thrill of it. Traits like these are what ultimately made King Candy a virus, what the video game characters christened dangerous threats that could spread and control. In relation to this he proved to be a difficult force to defeat, having endured two supposed "deaths" prior to his final demise — each time he resurfaced, he was more powerful and sinister than before.

King Candy developed throughout the film in appearance and motives. Having gone from a racer to a king to a virus, his motives elevated from a mere lust for fame and attention to an additional one for power and authority. Overall, he could be considered a sociopath. Beneath the mirage of a comedically pleasant figure laid a wicked and destructive malefactor with a lack of boundaries and thirst for attention and power, willing to achieve these obsessions by any means necessary regardless of the consequences. He also shows little care for others and lacks any remorse, the kindness and consideration he had for others was all merely a façade that hid the mendacious monster he really was underneath.

Powers and Abilities

As Turbo/King Candy

  • Racing: Turbo is an experienced racer, having been created as one. He had a great focus on speed and was one of, if not the fastest of all racers in the arcade, aside from Vanellope.
  • Intelligence: Turbo was also incredibly intelligent and deductive, having been able to take control of an entire game and maintained control for a decade and a half without anyone suspecting his true nature.
    • Hacking: Turbo was a skilled hacker and codebreaker as he hacked Sugar Rush and no one even knew the game was changed aside from Sour Bill.
    • Disguise: Turbo was a master of disguise as after hacking Sugar Rush he disguised himself altering his code to an extent and acted so he could fit in.

As a Cy-Bug

  • Strength: Turbo had great strength after fusing with a Cy-Bug as he was able to overpower Ralph who was capable of wrecking a building with his bare fists (even knocking him down with single slap).
  • Speed: Turbo could tuck himself into a wheel and roll at high speeds. His speed was on par if not greater than Ralph who could outrun a car.
  • Flight: Turbo had wings and was able to fly even while carrying Ralph.

Biography

Background

Felix: He was acting all squirrelly last night...Going on about cake and medals...But I never thought he'd go Turbo.
Calhoun:
"Go Turbo"?
Felix: That's right, you guys just got plugged in. Well, back when the arcade first opened, TurboTime was by far the most popular game. And Turbo... he loved the attention. So, when RoadBlasters got plugged in, and stole Turbo's thunder... boy, was he jealous. So jealous that he abandoned his game and tried to take over the new one. [...] Turbo ended up putting both games and himself, out of order. For good.
Calhoun: Yes, the selfish man is like a mangy dog chasing a cautionary tale.
~ Felix describing to Calhoun about Turbo's past and how he became infamous.
Turbo jealous (1)

Turbo becoming jealous.

When Litwak's Arcade first opened, Turbo was the titular star of the racing game TurboTime. The game was wildly popular and Turbo relished in the attention of his fans, much to the chagrin of his fellow racers, and perhaps even the entire arcade. He was also familiar quite with the characters from the game Fix-It Felix Jr., which his game sat next to, including its main antagonist, Wreck-It Ralph.

Then one day, a new racing game known as RoadBlasters arrived and stole Turbo's spotlight due to its high-quality graphics, causing him to become extremely jealous. Driven by rage and envy, Turbo abandoned his own game and traveled into the new one in an attempt to dominate it and regain his popularity, essentially becoming a virus. However, his attempt only caused confusion and worry among the gamers, and then ultimately failed when he ended up crashing the game (by literally crashing his cart into a RoadBlasters car). His reckless actions resulted in both TurboTime and RoadBlasters being put out of order permanently, and Turbo was presumed to have died along with the inhabitants of both games when they were unplugged. Since then, Turbo became a rather infamous figure in the arcade's history, with his story becoming a cautionary tale amongst the other game characters, warning them of the potential risks of going into other games during open hours (or just basically not performing the roles that they were specifically made for), with the action of doing so being coined as "Going Turbo", as a reminder of Turbo's deeds.

Unbeknownst to the rest of the arcade, however, Turbo had somehow survived the incident and hid himself in the bowels of Game Central Station for many years afterwards, unrepentant of his heinous actions. Then, when a new candy-themed racing game called Sugar Rush was plugged in, Turbo saw an opportunity to reclaim his lost glory. After successfully infiltrating the game unnoticed, he found a way into its code room and made several adjustments. Because his original identity was too recognizable, he created a new data box for himself which altered his appearance, giving himself a new persona called "King Candy" to fit amongst the game's residents and to prevent everybody from knowing he's alive that his death was fake. Then, in a bid to take the lead role and become the game's main character as he was in his original game, he attempted to delete the game's original main protagonist, Princess Vanellope Von Schweetz from the mainframe by tearing out her data box and pushing it away from all the others, but his attempt only managed to corrupt her coding, effectively turning her into a "glitch". Unable to get rid of her completely, King Candy went on and literally locked up all the characters' memories of Vanellope's existence and real purpose, including hers, allowing him to usurp her place as the game's ruler and main character, as well as her personal cart as his own. As an extra consequence, Vanellope also became unable to leave the game due to her glitched nature, so if the game was ever unplugged, she would not be able to escape and be forced to perish along with it.

Despite his best efforts, there was a fatal flaw in King Candy's plan: if Vanellope were to ever cross the finish line in an official race, the game will automatically reset and the original codes that he altered would be fully restored to the way they were, thus exposing him for the fraud he was. To prevent this from ever happening, King Candy took advantage of Vanellope's corrupted condition by claiming that as a "glitch", she was never meant to exist, and that her erratic nature made her unsuitable for racing and therefore a threat to the game. This was enough to turn everyone else against her, forcing her into destitution as an outcast, and being unable to escape from the game, she had to endure the abuse while hiding out in an unfinished level within the Coke-Soda Volcano. For unknown reasons, Sour Bill knew of King Candy's true nature (either Candy trusted Sour Bill enough to reveal his machinations in private, or perhaps Bill learned it on his own but was too afraid to stand up to him). Another flaw in his plan was that despite his claims of Vanellope's unintentional existence, her picture riding his cart was still on the side of the game's console. Furthermore, Turbo apparently never even figured out how to make it so he could regenerate himself outside his original game, as all arcade characters were subjected to the rule of not being able to regenerate if they "died" outside their respective game of origin.

Wreck-It Ralph

WIR - King Candy shocked

"Vanellope!"

For the next fifteen years, King Candy reigned supreme over Sugar Rush while Vanellope was treated as an outcast. But his life at Sugar Rush was temporary and all of this changed when Wreck-It Ralph of the classic old-school arcade game Fix-It Felix, Jr. inadvertently arrived after attempting to earn a medal in the modern first-person shooter game Hero's Duty to finally gain respect from his fellow game characters and just so he can be in Felix's lucky life as a good guy. When Vanellope met him in the Candy Cane Forest and discovered his medal dangling on the branch, she stole the medal to use it as a gold coin in order to buy her way into the Random Roster Race that King Candy was hosting. At first he didn't recognize her, but after her name appeared on the racers list, King Candy immediately ordered her arrest, but a taffy-covered Ralph appeared and distracted everyone, allowing her to escape.

When Candy realized that the "taffy monster" was Ralph, he did not exactly welcome him to his homeland with open arms and wanted to know what Ralph is doing in his realm. Ralph explains what had happened between him and Vanellope, and Candy deduces that Ralph's medal and Vanellope's coin were one in the same. Angry that Vanellope is now able to enter the race if allowed due to Ralph's meddling, he orders his men to escort Ralph out his kingdom and threatens to throw him in his "Fungeon" if he sees him again and then takes his leave to hunt down Vanellope. Unfortunately, Ralph escaped and once again met up with Vanellope after her kart was destroyed by other racers who came to mock her. After a short conversation, Vanellope agreed to help Ralph get his medal back if he helped her get an actual kart to win the race.

King Candy and his enforcers then find Vanellope and Ralph in the Kart Bakery but the duo escape with a functioning kart and the king and his minions give chase. When they elude their pursuers by hiding in an unfinished track within Diet-Cola Mountain, King Candy orders his men to find Vanellope and destroy her new kart to prevent her from ever racing. When his minions were unable to find Ralph and Vanellope, he decided to take action himself by entering into the game's code room, from where he successfully retrieves Ralph's medal. He left the castle in Sour Bill's care and managed to locate Ralph in the same place he lost him.

He attempts to earn Ralph's trust by coming alone and unarmed at first, but Ralph was furious to see the king and attempted to pummel him. However, his attitude changed when Candy returned the medal in exchange for his mercy and attention. Candy then explains that he is simply trying to protect Sugar Rush as well as Vanellope by keeping her from racing, because if Vanellope wins the race, the players will be able to choose her avatar, and that her glitching will make them think the game's broken and it will be put out of order as a result. King Candy and his people will be forced to evacuate and be left homeless while Vanellope will be left behind since her glitching cannot allow leaving the game and die with it. Having convinced Ralph to stop Vanellope from racing, Candy takes his leave. Ralph then reluctantly smashes Vanellope's kart and makes her cry before returning back to his game in disgrace, which allowed King Candy to finally capture Vanellope and confine her in his Fungeon along with Fix-It Felix.

However, after noticing a picture of Vanellope on the side of the game console in King Candy's cart, Ralph returns to Sugar Rush and interrogates Sour Bill with this fact who was cleaning up Vanellope's destroyed kart. After the short "tortures", Sour Bill confesses what King Candy had done and that allowing Vanellope to race and cross the finish line would fix what he did. This truth enables Ralph to free Vanellope from the Fungeon and fix her kart with Felix's help.

"I forbid you to cross that finish line!"

Assured his reign over Sugar Rush was finally safe from Vanellope, King Candy participated in the Random Roster Race without worry. At first, he dominated the other racers with his superior skills and quickly gained the lead, but in the Ice Cream Mountains, which was the final part of the track, he is shocked to see Vanellope pass him by and uses a shortcut to ambush her inside the caves, ramming her kart with his kart and trying to throw her off the track to which she asks him if he is crazy. King Candy gets furious and forbids Vanellope to cross the finish line, King Candy locks the accelerator and the steering wheel with the gear lever and grabs the antenna of his kart to attack her but Vanellope grabs the antenna and fights him, causing Vanellope to glitch him as well and penetrate his codes, thus exposing his true identity as Turbo in front of Ralph and Felix who saw everything on a large screen; both were shocked at him having survived for so long after he was believed to be gone. With his true identity revealed, Turbo furiously boasted who he truly is and that he reprogrammed Sugar Rush to his own liking, right before attempting to kill Vanellope by ramming her and her kart into a stalagmite. However, Vanellope glitched herself and her kart successfully away from him. Just as Turbo was about to give chase, he was devoured by a massive Cy-Bug (the one Ralph accidentally brought into the game) that appeared on the track.

Wreck-it-ralph-disneyscreencaps

Turbo revealing his cy-bug form to Ralph.

He survived this ordeal as Cy-Bugs could merge with whatever they consumed, he hijacked the body of the Cy-Bug that ate him and fused with it, thus transforming Turbo into a monstrous Cy-Bug hybrid and self-proclaimed leader of the Cy-Bugs. As Sugar Rush is about to be destroyed and devoured by the swarm, Ralph initiates a plan to destroy them all by wrecking the Mentos stalactites towards the Diet Cola volcano that would set off a makeshift light beacon in the form of a geyser capable of attracting the Cy-Bugs to their deaths by vaporizing them on contact. Just as Ralph is about to make the final smash, Turbo arrives and swats him away, announcing that, thanks to Ralph's actions, he has become a powerful virtual virus and that he has the power to take over any game he wants to, but not before killing Ralph out of fun. As such, both Ralph and Turbo engage in a fight, ending with Turbo grabbing Ralph and flying up into the sky, where he sadistically intends to force Ralph to bear witness as a helpless Vanellope is about to be devoured by several Cy-Bugs.

Turbo declared it would be "game over" for both Ralph and Vanellope, but Ralph disagrees and he frees himself from Turbo's grasp and makes one final blow at the Diet-Cola geyser. As Ralph is about to fall into the cola lava, Vanellope saves him just in time using her own glitching abilities (which she can now control) and a kart belonging to another racer. The lava spews out of the bottle-shaped volcano and destroys the bugs as planned. Turbo attempts to stop them, but his programming breaks down and he becomes attracted to the beacon as well. Though he attempts to resist, he ultimately ends up flying straight into the lava, thus killing and deleting himself along with all the other Cy-Bugs. Since Turbo originated from another game, he was unable to regenerate himself, making his death permanent and avenging the two games he put out of service and inhabitants' deaths he selfishly caused.

Turbodeath

Turbo's death.

After Turbo's demise, Vanellope finally crosses the finish line, thus restoring the game to the way it was before Turbo's tampering. All the damage done by Turbo and the Cy-Bugs was fixed and everyone's memories were released, allowing them to remember that Vanellope is their true ruler and main protagonist.

Ralph Breaks the Internet

In the six years following his death, King Candy's floral art in Sugar Rush had since been replaced with the floral art of Vanellope since he never belonged to the game in the first place. However, King Candy's trademark crown could still be seen near the grandstands; Turbo's damage to Vanellope's code was still noticeable as she continued glitching uncontrollably and erratically at times despite having reset the game. This in turns leads to all the Internet being endangered when Ralph buys the Arthur virus from Double Dan in an attempt to dissuade Vanellope from staying at Slaughter Race, leading Arthur to replicate Vanellope's glitching and nearly take over all the cyber-world.

Trivia

  • He is one of the few Disney Villains in the Disney revival era to die along with Dr. Facilier, Mother Gothel, Arthur, and King Runeard.
  • His voice was an impression of the late Ed Wynn and his design as King Candy was also inspired by a character voiced by Wynn, which was the Mad Hatter from Alice in Wonderland.
    • Surprisingly enough, Tudyk would later go on to voice the Hatter himself in 2023's Once Upon a Studio (in which Turbo, in his King Candy persona can be seen in the final shot).
    • King Candy may have also been based on Willy Wonka from Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.
    • In early concept sketches, King Candy more closely resembled the Mad Hatter as well.
    • His name also appears to be inspired by King Kandy, the character from the candy-themed racing board game, Candyland.
    • His original form's (Turbo) character design also appears to be inspired by the Driver from the Rally-X arcade game released by Namco in 1980, who's appearance appears to be inspired off that of Speed Racer. This all because Turbo's original game was about apparently largely inspired by Rally-X.
  • At the part where Turbo's real identity was being revealed, after he says "I'm Turbo!", Turbo could be briefly seen showing his classic thumbs-up pose and smile. This frame was only shown for a very short amount of time and would not be seen if viewed normally.
  • How Turbo managed to escape the unplugging of the game when Mr. Litwak pulled the plugs of the machines so fast is a bit unclear, though one possibility is that he drove his race car through the plugs when invading RoadBlasters then escaping the latter, hence he was apparently going through them so fast.
  • He was the first animated Disney character voiced by Alan Tudyk, who has also gone on to voice a character in every movie since then.
  • There was some foreshadowing that King Candy was Turbo all along:
    • He bore little-to-no-resemblance to the other racers' anime style, looking more like a western cartoon character and his name was significantly different from the other racers, hinting he was not actually from the game.
    • When taken to the castle Ralph said that the throne room was pink, which hinted that it would've been owned by a princess. At that moment, King Candy became defensive and said it was salmon; if it were really his it would have been made differently according to his liking.
    • King Candy was the only Sugar Rush citizen to recognize Ralph, and instantly at that, as he remembered Ralph since his original game was right next to Fix-It Felix Jr. since the opening days of Litwack's Arcade, circa the 1980s.
    • When he learned Ralph game-jumped he began to overreact, accusing Ralph of attempting to take over his game. However, Sugar Rush was a game installed long after the events of Turbo's machinations and none of the more recent game characters knew of him.
    • In Felix's flashback about Turbo shared with Sergeant Calhoun, his voice sounded similar to King Candy's. Additionally, when his name was spoken on the racers board, it also sounded different as if Turbo himself recorded it.
    • He had access to and extensive knowledge of the codes of Sugar Rush and used it to get the medal even though he claimed no one could regain it, making his motives highly questionable.
    • King Candy's data box was noticeably larger than the others in the CPU room, while Vanellope's data box was smaller, just like the others and lacked wires, occasionally sparking and flickering.
    • Just before he manipulated Ralph into destroy Vanellope's kart, King Candy could be seen panicking as Ralph tried to attack him. While this could be seen as simple cowardice, this is easily an indicator that he was aware that because of him not being an actual part of the game, he would be dead forever if Ralph actually killed him. If it really were his own game, King Candy shouldn't have been that concerned about it since he knew he would safely respawn seconds afterwards.
    • Any quick-thinking viewer could possibly pick up that King Candy's supposed good reason to prohibit Vanellope from racing was bogus as the vision we are exposed to that shows the potential repercussions of Vanellope's glitching while racing is only affecting her kart and not the entirety of the game, therefore proving that her glitching is harmless. Also, his reactions to keep Vanellope from racing don't line up to what he told Ralph.
    • Towards the end of the movie, when Ralph saw Vanellope on the side of the game console of Sugar Rush, she was riding the cart that King Candy himself is using, proving that said cart didn't actually belong to him. In addition, if she were a glitch, no character art from her would have been made, which immediately allowed Ralph to put the pieces together.
      • In relation to the above, if one examines the Sugar Rush game console, they can see that King Candy's character art is not anywhere on the console despite supposedly being the game's primary character. This is one of the most clear and obvious hints that he is not from the game.
  • One may notice in Felix's flashback of Turbo that he quickly got through Game Central Station within seconds and that he can be seen in his car as he hijacks RoadBlasters. This indicates that he outright drove his racecar through Game Central Station at high speed, showing how enraged and obsessive he was when RoadBlasters stole his attention.
  • In the playable browser-based game adaptation of Sugar Rush, one could unlock King Candy himself as a playable racer simply by typing in the code "KING CANDY". In Japan this code was "7ELEVEN".
  • In the early production stages, King Candy owned a unicorn with a candy corn-themed horn named Skittles. King Candy himself was also supposed to be a fantastical candy-themed creature completely separate from Turbo who'd redeem at the end in earlier drafts.
  • Turbo was a dark mirror and parallel to Wreck-It Ralph, as both were video game characters who game-jumped out of their games of origin. Also Ralph was programmed to be a "villain," but is truly benevolent and caring towards others, while Turbo, on the other hand, was programmed to be a "hero," but was an arrogant and mean-spirited egomaniac racer having no value for or interest in anyone besides himself. Turbo is an example of what Ralph would have become if he had been too obsessed with getting what he wanted instead of doing the right thing.
    • He is also a foil to Vanellope von Schweetz, since both are determined racers who were the main characters of their respective games of origin (TurboTime for Turbo; Sugar Rush for Vanellope), and were popular with the gamers. However, Vanellope didn't necessarily want all the attention for herself; she just wanted to fit in, while Turbo wanted all the spotlight for himself. They also behaved rather selfishly, but Vanellope realizes her selfishness and makes up for it, unlike Turbo. He represents what kind of person Vanellope could've become if she let the fame and attention get to her head. Even if Vanellope did went out of the race alone and won thus gets her game restored back, she will permanently abandon her friendship with Ralph, thus they both would've never learned about the real truth that Turbo was actually trying to destroy their relationship, but luckily this failed. If Vanellope moves on with her life without her friendship with Ralph ever again, this leads her into egotism upon being the main protagonist in her game, which will make her choose popularity over intimacy, thus she will also end up like Turbo.
  • Turbo appears on a sign seen on a concept art for the sequel.
  • It was much of a debate as to how Turbo got undiscovered alive for 10 whole years after escaping the unplugging of both Roadblasters and Turbotime as the Game Central Station doesn't look like a good hiding place for anyone, so it was otherwise possible that he hid in other games.
    • However, in a 2013 Reddit AMA, Wreck-It Ralph director Rich Moore stated that, in regards to how Turbo survived the unplugging of TurboTime and RoadBlasters, the filmmakers intended that Turbo escaped from the latter game prior to its unplugging and went on to live bitterly at Game Central Station's bowels, where he learned one or two things about coding, so when Sugar Rush was plugged, Turbo immediately sneaked into the game, took it over and erased everyone's memories before any players had a chance to play it.
  • Concept art for Turbo hints that he is bald (save for having some lines of hair).
  • Ironically enough, his eventual death in the first film involves him giving attention to another particular subject besides himself, and in his own case, he unwillingly gave that to the ignited Diet Cola Mountain since he became a Cy-Bug himself, as the species' known weakness is their attraction to bright stuff.
  • King Candy's reveal as Turbo is mainly, but indirectly because of Ralph's remorse. If Ralph himself had not regretted leaving his game to become a "hero", King Candy's true identity may have never come to light.
  • Turbo has a lisp whenever he speaks.
  • In a hint of irony, Turbo's ultimate downfall was largely because of his encountering of Vanellope.
    • Had he not made Vanellope a glitch in the first place, then his true self would not have been exposed publicly by her within the digital world.
    • Vanellope's glitching powers gave her the ability to teleport, which made her escape from him as he's left eaten by a Cy-Bug, resulting in him possessing the weakness of being attracted to beacons.
    • His provocation to Ralph about Vanellope's potential death with the Cy-Bugs made the latter finally ignite the Diet Cola Mountain, ultimately sealing Turbo's fate once and for all.
