History[]
Early life[]
Season 2[]
In "Stories," while trying to get a patient's father to fix his marriage, Park tells the story of his own failed marriage and states that he doesn't get to see his son much.
In "Quarantine," Kellan comes to San Jose to spend the Christmas holidays with his father, something he shows clear resentment for. Due to being in the ER getting chips from the vending machine, Kellan gets stuck when the ER goes into quarantine due to a viral outbreak and is unable to call his father as his cell phone is charging elsewhere. Kellan remains trapped in the ER as the situation deteriorates with Tyler Durness dying and Dr. Audrey Lim becoming ill. Kellan suffers an asthma attack, triggering a panic amongst the people in the ER who fear that Kellan has also caught the virus. Nurse Deena Petringa tries to treat Kellan, but discovers that his inhaler is empty and Dr. Shaun Murphy collapses from sensory overload as Deena tries to get his help.
In "Quarantine: Part Two," with Kellan still in the midst of an asthma attack, Park breaks into the quarantine to treat his son with a nebulizer. Kellan recovers and helps Shaun perform an examination of Viola, leading into a discussion of Kellan's family issues. Kellan admits that he wishes his father was around more, causing Shaun to point out that Park risked his life and career to break in and help Kellan when Kellan needed him. Viola is more understanding of Kellan's point, telling Shaun that kids want their parents around even when its not a life threatening situation. Inspired by the conversation, Kellan confronts his father over Park moving away and only showing up for one of Kellan's baseball games which Park spent the entire time on his computer studying for exams. Unhappy with Park's response, Kellan walks away.
When Viola goes into distress, Shaun is forced to perform a C-section, but ends up in a situation where both the mother and baby are in trouble. To save them both, Shaun seeks the help of anyone who knows CPR in the ER and Kellan volunteers, having learned in health class. Directed by Dr. Garcia, Kellan performs CPR on the baby as Shaun stabilizes Viola. The baby proves to have inhaled fecal matter and Kellan becomes emotional at the idea that he caused the baby harm. As Shaun works on the baby, Garcia assures Kellan that his actions likely dislodged some of the fecal matter, preventing the baby from suffocating. Thanks to Kellan's help, Shaun is able to save both Viola and her baby. Park later reconciles with his son, emotionally seeking forgiveness for his failings as a father. The two are later reunited with Kellan's mother Mia after being released from the quarantine.
In "Aftermath," Kellan and his parents spend time together while the ER is closed for decontamination following the viral outbreak. To Kellan's joy, his parents agree to give another try at their relationship.
Season 3[]
In "Disaster," Park mentions that Kellan is coming to visit as a reason for not taking a patient with dementia. After Audrey Lim as the new Chief of Surgery announces that third-year residents can now lead surgeries, he and Morgan Reznick argue over the case. When Morgan reminds him that Kellan is coming, Park states that Kellan is sixteen and barely talks to him. At the end of his shift, Park leaves to pick Kellan up at the airport.
In "Debts," Park mentions to Morgan that he spent the night helping Kellan with a biology project.
In "Moonshot," Park tells Shaun that he flies out to Phoenix every other weekend to be with Mia and Kellan. He also uses the story of his and Mia's reconciliation after nearly losing Kellan during the quarantine to try to convince a dying patient to reach out to her ex-husband.
In "Fixation," Kellan visits looking for his father, but Shaun is rather rude to him due to Shaun's fixation on finding a solution for his love life. Melendez kindly tells Kellan that Park is in surgery currently while Claire tells Shaun off for his rude behavior to the young man. Kellan is later caught vaping THC with Max Reed, a young man whose mentor is in the hospital from a severe infection. Security agrees to keep the incident quiet, but Park is left furious at his son for doing drugs, especially as Kellan has asthma.
Later, as Park tries to get answers from Kellan, he suffers what Park recognizes is a panic attack. Park helps Kellan get through it and Kellan admits that it happens a lot and while vaping is stupid, it helps the panic attacks go away. That night, Park apologizes for cornering Kellan and has spoken to Mia about finding him a therapist in Phoenix, suggesting that the "unsettled" relationship between his parents has put Kellan on edge. Kellan reveals that he feels like his father doesn't really want to know about his life since he's so busy and far away so Kellan has been pretending to be okay for him.
In "Hurt," in the aftermath of an earthquake, Park treats a young man whose strained relationship with his father reminds Park of his and Kellan's relationship. In "I Love You," after the young man dies, an emotional Park decides to move back to be closer to his family. After Mia gives Kellan the phone, Park dissolves into tears at hearing his son's voice.
Season 4[]
In "Frontline Part One," Park has delayed moving back due to the COVID-19 pandemic, partially out of worry about exposing Kellan to the virus with his asthma. Park is sure that the pandemic will be over before June and he can make it to Kellan's graduation. During Week 3 of the state of emergency, Kellan Face Times his father and expresses worry about Park's safety though Park does his best to reassure Kellan. However, Kellan remains dubious about Park's claims of everything being under control.
Later, Kellan Face Times with his father again and Lea Dilallo seeks Kellan's opinion on how well Shaun looks. Shaun also offers Kellan his congratulations on his coming graduation.
In "Frontline Part Two," Park answers a call from Kellan after missing several others. Park admits that he doesn't know when he's coming to Phoenix and Park doesn't think he will make Kellan's graduation party, admitting that he "kind of went out on a limb" with his patient's treatment who isn't doing so well. Kellan angrily hangs up on his father. Kellan eventually calls back to apologize and admits that the real issue is that Kellan wants to know that his father cares more about him than his job. Park reassures Kellan that he is the most important thing in his father's life and the two bond. Three weeks later, Park takes part in his son's party via FaceTime.
In "Newbies," Shaun mentions that Park had a video chat with Kellan and so left the new resident applicants in Shaun's care.
In "Waiting," after a young boy, Ethan is shot in the head, Park takes it particularly hard after discovering that Ethan is a soccer player. Park subsequently explains to Morgan that Kellan started playing soccer at 7 years old and loved it so much that he refused to take off his jersey. When Kellan spilled grape juice on it and stained the jersey, Park got angry at his son. The reminder of the young Kellan almost makes Park abandon the case, but Morgan convinces him to stay and continue to help.
Season 5[]
In "Growing Pains," while discussing moving in together, Park tells Morgan that Kellan is in college and a lot of Park's money is going towards paying his tuition.
Season 6[]
In "The Good Boy," Park tells Morgan that Kellan told him the week before that he isn't coming home for the holidays, and he is instead going on a trip with his roommates. Park worries that he's losing his son and that he's been a crappy father, but Morgan reassures him that he's not.
In "365 Degrees," Park tells Morgan that it's his day off and Kellan is town so they're going to see Young the Giant together. Park acknowledges that Kellan would probably rather be with his friends, although he does enjoy his father paying for the tickets and the beer. Park also reveals that Kellan had turned 21 a month before and he can legally drink now, although Park is sure that Kellan has probably been drinking for awhile illegally.
In "Half Measures," Park tells Morgan and Shaun that a lot of his issues with Kellan came from trying to stop his son from making the same mistakes that he made.
Trivia[]
- In "Quarantine," Kellan implies that he may be LGBT when his father asks about his "The Future is Female" T-shirt Kellan is wearing.
- However, Kellan's tone also implies that he may have done it just to get a reaction out of his father due to their poor relationship at the time.
