Callum Reilly is a former patient at St. Bonaventure Hospital, who had a bypass surgery.

Biography[]

Season 1[]

Callum is admitted to the hospital. Dr. Claire Browne tells him that he urgently needs to have a bypass surgery and Dr. Melendez will perform it. He refuses to sign the consent forms, saying that he feels fine and wants a second opinion. Claire says that a real reason behind his refusal is the fact that he's scared; scared that the doctors will cut his chest open, stop his heart, repair it and restart it; that the previous day his life was perfect and today he's lying in a hospital bad, trying to figure out the best way to say goodbye to his teenage children. Callum asks her why she's saying this, to which she replies he should face the truth. If he lies, her answers won't help him. Callum finally admits that he's scared.

Claire makes a deal: Callum will have a meeting with Dr. Max from psychiatry, after which he'll sign the forms, and the doctors will perform a surgery the very next day. Melendez tells Claire that it's unnecessary and she should get Callum sign forms so that they will perform an operation the same day. Claire tries to object, but Melendez reminds her that he's her superior and assigns Kalu to get a signed informed consent.

During the surgery, doctors discover an abscess in Callum's abdomen, which suddenly bursts. Melendez says that he'd die if they had made him wait until tomorrow. At this moment, the doctors are informed that there's an 8-year-old patient incoming with undetermined internal injuries. Melendez sends Claire, saying that she's no longer needed as Callum will be fine, which implies that in the end, the surgery went well and Callum recovered.[1]
