Caroline Reznick was a minor character in Season 3 of The Good Doctor and the mother of Morgan, Cassie and Ariel.
Biography[]
Caroline is a painter, though she was so involved with her work that she constantly neglected Morgan while dealing with rheumatoid arthritis which destroyed her hands and wrists. Cassie and Ariel went on to become artists themselves (Cassie a composer and Ariel a sculptor) while Morgan went on to study medicine, which Caroline was never proud of as opposed to Cassie and Ariel. In 2014, Caroline once received a negative review of her work which Caroline thought was unfair due to claims that the critic had hated Caroline for a long time.
Caroline soon developed cav-mals which she needed treatment for. Unfortunately, she constantly refused to listen to those she initially came to for medical advice as they said that she was terminally ill with the cav-mals and the only treatment to extend her life was a lobectomy which would've cut back her career as a painter. After Cassie and Ariel failed to get her to listen, she came to San Jose St. Bonaventure Hospital which was actually the hospital Morgan works at and then reunited with her before collapsing. She still refused to listen while she was visited by Morgan and her fellow doctors, Shaun Murphy, Claire Browne and Alex Park.
Caroline eventually checked herself out of the hospital, annoyed that they didn’t offer any other option (which Morgan chastised her over) but was soon brought back by Morgan and Ariel after she had a seizure. Morgan continued to try and get Caroline to have the lobectomy, while observing to see if her seizures were caused by the cav-mals. Morgan tried to get Caroline to have one by recalling how Caroline had been as her mother, but it didn’t work until Morgan brought up the terrible review.
Caroline was kept at the hospital for another day to rest after the cav-mals were found to have not caused the seizure, while Morgan figured out an experimental procedure which was pitched to Caroline. Although she refused it due to fears about it killing her, Ariel soon backed Morgan up and Caroline had it. With the cav-mals having been removed and Caroline able to continue her work, she and Morgan later made amends.
