Sylvanus is one of the playable Gods in SMITE.

Lore[]

It is no coincidence the fields and forests surrounding the Mediterranean are haven to shepherds, farmers, and wildlife. They're guarded by aged Sylvanus, a benevolent spirit of nature, whose glittering eyes and easy grin match the vibrant life that grows in these lands.

Companion to all woodland creatures, both mundane and fantastic, Sylvanus has been seen with fawn and wolf, nymph and satyr, and even trees come to life. He protects and nurtures those that respect his domain.

When the boy Cyparissus went traveling with his pet deer, Sylvanus accidently allowed wolves to hunt the peaceful animal. So stricken with grief at the loss of his pet, the child succumbed to despair and died. Wracked with guilt, Sylvanus transformed the child into the Cypress tree, whose sap weeps like the saddened child.

Old and wise, Sylvanus views the passing of time with ease and understanding. His laughter is the wind in the leaves, his touch the sprout of flowers from the earth, and his voice the call to calm the most savage beast. He is slow to anger and slower to act, which is why his presence on the battlefield is so strange. As the war between Gods spills into the idyllic realms Sylvanus keeps, he is left with no choice but fight back.

Abilities[]

Passive - Nature's Bounty
When Sylvanus’ abilities hit or are deployed a seed pod appears. When Sylvanus picks up this seed pod he restores 2.5% of his Mana as well as lowers his cooldowns by 0.5s. At level 15 this Cooldown Reduction is increased to 1s. Notes:
  Sylvanus' Basic Attacks have a radius of 10, benefit from only 33% Lifesteal and cannot go through walls.
  The seeds have a maximum duration of 10s.

1st Ability - Verdant Growth
Sylvanus throws a seed to a target location. If it hits an enemy they will take damage, lose Protections, and become Rooted. If the seed lands on the ground, after 5s it will grow into a flower providing MP5 to nearby allies. The pod can be destroyed by Basic Attacks (maximum 3 pods), exploding and releasing poisonous spores that reduce Protections of nearby enemies. Notes:
  Can be used through walls.
  Has an MP5/Penetration radius of 30.
  Multiple MP5 auras do not stack.
  Placing more than 3 pods will cause the oldest one to be destroyed.
  Can reduce up to 15/30/45/60/75 Protections.
  Damage: 80/120/160/200/240 (+50% of your Magical Power)   MP5 Increase: 20

2nd Ability - Wisps
Sylvanus releases wisps that seek out nearby allies and enemies. Allied gods are Protected and all allies are Healed while enemies take damage over time.

The initial wisp heals allied gods and damages enemies for twice the normal amount. This ability does not create seed pods when hitting minions.

Notes:
  Deals a total of 84/120/156/192/228 (+60% of your Magical Power) damage (29/42/55/67/80 (+21% of your Magical Power) damage to minions) and heals a total of 50/75/100/125/150 health (17.5/26/35/44/52.5 health to minions).

Sylvanus's treant launches his rooty hand out in front of him. The hand stops at the first enemy god hit, Stunning them with no diminishing returns and pulling them back towards Sylvanus. Notes:

Sylvanus's treant slams his large trunks into the ground causing large thorny roots to break out of the ground around him. Enemies hit are knocked up and poisoned. Notes:
  Sylvanus is immune to crowd control for a short duration on use.

General[]

  • Curiously, Sylvanus doesn't have a Greek counterpart, although he borrows some elements from the god Pan (who was named Faunus by the Romans).
  • Sylvanus' treant is called Grover.
  • Grover was voiced by the famous voice actor Christopher Sabat, known for his role as the voice of Vegeta in Dragon Ball Z.
  • Sylvanus' treant, Grover, appears as a playable character in Paladins, another game made by Hi-Rez Studios.
  • Sylvanus' victory screen is a reference to the Guardians of the Galaxy movie. This is further referenced in one of his introduction voicelines.
  • Sylvanus is the first guardian to have ranged basic attacks.
  • Second if Hades before his change of class is counted.
  • Sylvanus is the first guardian whose ranged basic attacks deal AoE damage. The second being Jormungandr.
  • Sylvanus along with Charon, Jormungandr and Yemoja are currently the only guardian gods to have ranged basic attacks.

Replaced Abilities[]

Passive - Nature's Protection
Enemies that successfully land a melee Basic Attack on Sylvanus have a 25% chance to be Rooted for 1s. This may only happen once every 12s. Additionally, Sylvanus' Basic Attacks hit enemies in an AoE. Notes:
  Sylvanus' Basic Attacks have a radius of 10.
