Adventurer Stories Episode 1 Vania's Decision Please note that this story contains spoilers for the Rage of Chronos event as well as Yurius's adventurer story. After Chronos's plot sees the young vampire Vania brought into contact with Euden, she elects to stay at the Halidom, holding out hope of one day saving her people. In the meantime... Vania: Blooooodkiiiiin! Euden: Hm? Ah—WAUGH?! Vania: Hee hee. I'm just so excited to finally have a bloodkin of my very own! C'mon, let's go play! Euden: Ouch... *ahem* Vania, I'd hoped that our previous conversations made it clear that I can't dedicate my sole attention to you. Vania: Whaaat? Sure you can. It's decided. I decided it. Vania: I've gotta get way, WAY stronger if I want to help my clan stuck sleeping back in the forest. Vania: And they say there's nothing stronger than the AMAZING bond a vampire shares with her bloodkin. Vania: That's why we're besties now, you and me! Euden: I...have any number of comments to make about that, but I share your desire to be good friends. You're a part of the Halidom. Euden: When I do have time to spare, I'll gladly spend some of it with you. Okay, Vania? Vania: Heh heh, yesss! I knew you had more than rocks rollin' around in that noggin of yours. She's glued to your side morning, noon, and night. Luca: I'm impressed you can keep that up. I'd be tuning her out by now, no question! Even Sarisse isn't THAT bad. Euden: But she's known such loneliness. I can't bring myself to ignore her pleas for company now. Ranzal: You're a nicer guy than me, then. Vania: Hmph. I can't very well become queen one day if I can't navigate the whole interpersonal relationship thing. Vania: What do I do, then? How do I connect with my bloodkin and become a great mistress? Luca: How about you start by asking him what HE wants to do every once in a while? Luca: If he's struggling with something, help him out. If he's busy, give him some space. Episode 2 Vania's Field Trip Vania: Ooh, hi, bloodkin! Are you heading out? Euden: Hm? Yes, I've been asked to slay some fiends. I was just on my way to do that. Vania: I want to come along! Can I? Pleeease? Euden: I don't mind. Though...may I ask why? Vania: Well, you know how before everybody told me I needed to start meeting you halfway? Vania: I tried being SUPER patient and giving you your space, but it only made me want to know more about you. Vania: Plus... It gets lonely when you're not around. So I want to tag along! Euden: I see. I agree that making the effort to better understand one another is a good thing. Euden: I'm just as curious to learn more about you as you are of me. And all vampires possess these abilities? Vania: Hmmm, I'm trying to remember... I think a trueblood like me can do more than your average vampire, actually. Bind the trueblood! Imperial Soldiers: Sir! Euden: The Empire is after her?! Vania! Are you hurt?! Vania: Oh, I'm fine. They just startled me a little. I'm not afraid of these mooks! Euden: Quickly, get behind me! Vania: Huh? No, I can fight! You know I'm tough. This'll go way quicker if we team up. Vania: There, see? No problem! All right... Understood. Vania, can you stand? We need to get away from this place! Vania: *huff* *pant* Ugh, I'm wiped. Euden: We should be past their reach here. Now... Albert, Yurius. Why are you here? Euden: You both left the Halidom in search of the seeds of the abyss. Albert: Indeed. Our probe revealed that Phares had given seeds to a number of soldiers as part of some experiment. Albert: We chased those rumors here, determined to put a stop to whatever he's planning. Euden: What?! You believe my brother is trying to use Vania and the seeds to some ill end? Albert: We don't know the specifics any better than you, but he is all but certainly plotting something, and they're involved. Vania: Hey, what are these "seeds of the abyss"? Yurius: An extremely dangerous breed of dragon. They are too great a force for mankind to wield. Should they try...this is the result. Vania: Ew, what IS that?! It's all wriggly and slimy and...EWWW! Yurius: That is the price of said hubris. The seeds feed on human mana and fuse with it. They are a cursed thing. Albert: Now, a group of extremists within the Empire who hold the seeds seek vampire blood. The situation grows ever more grim. Euden: And Vania will continue to be a target until we stop them. Yurius: Exactly. Which brings me to a proposal. Will you allow us to serve as her guards? Yurius: Doing so would help us in our quest to destroy the seeds as well. A mutually beneficial arrangement for all parties. Euden: I agree. The information you've uncovered while tracking them will be vital to figuring out how the extremists knew about her. Euden: But we've yet to hear the most important opinion on the matter. What say you, Vania? Vania: Fine by me. A friend of yours is a friend of mine. Vania: Nice to have you on board, Uncle Sparky. Uncle Slimy. Albert & Yurius: "Uncle"?! Vania: You? The lightning magic guy is Sparky, and you, Mr. Unspeakable Tentacles man, you're Uncle Slimy. Albert: Adjectives aside, I'm still not of an age fit to be anyone's... *ahem* It matters not. We need to formulate our plan. Albert: Euden, let us pool our intel about the seeds and the trueblood to see if we can turn up a link between them. Albert: We still know little of vampires, let alone their higher echelon. Euden: Of course. I'm no expert myself, but here's what I've gathered so far... Vania: ...He's just droning on and on. Everything coming out of his mouth is so complicated. I'm bored. Vania: Right. I'm going out to the garden. Yurius: ...... Vania: *siiigh* Yurius: What has you sneaking off to sigh in secret, my little troublemaker? Vania: WAUGH! Don't scare me like that, Uncle Slimy! And can't you tell? I'm depressed. Vania: My bloodkin's completely ignoring me. Today's been awful from start to finish. Vania: It finally felt like we were getting to know each other a little and starting to gel, but then he wouldn't work with me at all. Vania: I guess our bond's still too weak. How am I supposed to take it to the next level? Yurius: Ah, I see now. I fear you've been laboring under a misconception from the very start. Yurius: Bonds are neither forged nor tempered intentionally. Vania: Say that in normal words. Yurius: Bonds grow stronger on their own as you learn about, care for, and trust another. At least, that has always been my experience. Yurius: I certainly can't recall ever attempting to intentionally strengthen my connection to the captain. Yurius: Indeed, I even sought to sever that tie, once. But he trusted in me so thoroughly that all my designs failed... The jerk. Vania: Hmmm... So you're saying there's not enough trust between us. Yurius: At the very least, the softhearted prince does not yet seem to regard you as an equal. Yurius: Rather, he seems to view you as a child— a little sister to be shielded from harm. Do you not get the same impression? Vania: Ah...! He DID say something like that! Ugh, how many times do I have to tell him that I'M the older sibling here?! Yurius: I suspected as much. Then your first step must be to win his respect as a peer. Yurius: Make him acknowledge your strength as you fight these foes. Prove you are no helpless waif. Vania: Yeah... Yeah! Okay, got it! The seeds of the abyss can be controlled using Vania's blood? Albert: I can't speak to the truth of it, but our imperial friends certainly think so. Yurius: Alone, those seeds are far more than man can handle, so they think to fight fire with fire. Neutralize one poison with another. Yurius: If they COULD be controlled, the seeds would be a weapon without peer. And I say that from personal experience. Vania: That doesn't make it okay to take a lady's blood and use it on some slimy tentacle thing. Have a little class, jeez! Euden: Agreed. What's more, if it's solely her blood they're after, she may be as useful to them dead as alive. Euden: I say we leave Vania in the safety of the Halidom and set out to destroy those seeds as soon as possible. Albert: We might, if we knew their location. But our intelligence source went silent just after we learned of all this. Albert: They probably went on high alert after learning that we've started guarding her. Albert: It's odd—they never seemed quite so careful until now. If anything, they were hasty. Desperate. Yurius: Hmph. Perhaps some third party stepped in to guide them. In any case, taking the initiative to strike first isn't an option. Albert: But neither can we sit idle while they hold those seeds. It's quite the conundrum. Vania: Is it, though? We just dangle me out there as bait and grab 'em when they show up. Vania: However sneaky they're trying to be, they won't turn down a chance like that. Boom, easy. Euden: Maybe so, but I don't... No. I can't allow it. The risk is too great. It's tantamount to willingly walking into their trap. Vania: And there you go treating me like a child again. I will be FINE, thankyouverymuch! Vania: You watched me beat that nasty ol' dragon before, didn't you? Euden: I did. But didn't you say the trueblood powers you used then were only temporary? Vania: Okay, so I'm not QUITE that strong right now, but I'm still unstoppable when I put my game face on! Euden: Even so... Yurius: She says she can handle it. Why not take her at her word? Vania: You tell him, Uncle Slimy! Yurius: We've all seen that she's a capable fighter. And frankly, we haven't many alternatives, nor the luxury of waiting. Yurius: They may set a trap, but what's safer than luring them to a fortified position? Or would you rather allow them free use of the seeds? Euden: Well, no... Euden: Fine. Episode 5 Vania's Bond Seed of the Abyss: Grrrgh... GrrrAAAOOOARGH! Together: Hah! Seed of the Abyss: GroAAARGH! Vania: Man, we're good at this! Euden: Agreed! Now we rush them down! Vania: Obviously! I'll take point. Make sure you keep up! Vania: On my mark... NOW! Euden: Right behind you! Taaake...THIS! Seed of the Abyss: GraaaOOOARGH! Vania: Ugh, that STILL wasn't enough? Learn to take a hint and just DIE already! Albert: Our blows are definitely landing, but this specimen seems far sturdier than the one I faced—and I have a hunch as to why. Yurius: Yes. It's thanks to the little lady's blood it absorbed. I have to admit I'm impressed at just how potent a trueblood's essence is. Albert: Stop praising the thing and help me think of a plan. There must be a way out of this! Yurius: We need to exhaust its energy or destroy the core in one go, and we're not equipped to do either. Yurius: Even if the prince shapeshifts, we still lack for a decisive final blow. Vania: Then stand back and let me do it. Albert: What?! Vania: Just ask my bloodkin how awesome I am when I go all out. He's seen it firsthand. Euden: I have, but... I thought that power was lost to you. Vania: Hmmm, those both sound fun, but what I'd REALLY like to do is... Vania: Yesss? Who is it? Albert: Hello to the Halidom's newest BFFs. Vania: Uncle Sparky! You said you were off to investigate the incident. Did you finish? Albert: We got about as far as we're able for now. And along the way, we came across a key piece of information... Yurius? Yurius: I'll get right to the point. A portion of the seed's husk was taken from the scene. We don't know by whom, or where they went. Vania: Seriously?! We went to all that trouble to destroy the thing, and someone swiped it? Euden: We were distracted by our injuries at the time, but still... Escaping with the seed amid that chaos? It must've been planned. Euden: If that's the case, though, why were they so sloppy in their execution? Did my brother know all along the seed would be destroyed? Yurius: Most likely. However it ended, it was a useful experiment for him. After all, simply possessing the seeds poses an undeniable danger to the holder. Yurius: If he proved able to control them, he wins; if the seed was destroyed, it still has its uses. I expect he calculated as much. Euden: I see. Then my brother still has some sort of scheme up his considerable sleeves. Albert: Meaning that we can't sit idly by. Yurius and I will continue to pursue the matter. Vania: Huh. Sounds like you guys have your plates full, then. Albert: Very. Things worked out this time around thanks to your help, but there's no telling what will happen next time. Vania: Well... If something does come up, my bloodkin and I will make a special exception and lend you a hand. Albert: Wait. Really? Vania: Sure. You gave me some pretty solid advice about strengthening our bond. Vania: Which is SUPER strong now, by the way. So yeah... Thanks. I owe you a little favor or two for that! Albert: I don't recall giving you any advice. Did HE say something to you? ...Yurius, playing relationship counselor? Yurius: No comment, Captain. Now, little lady, I bid you be well. I look forward to another display of the future queen's power. Vania: It's a date! My bloodkin and I are gonna be practically attached at the hip by then, so get ready for a REAL show. Vania: Invest in some garters now, because it's gonna blow your socks clean off. Right, bloodkin? Tell the man! Euden: Vania speaks true. Our bond IS stronger than ever before, after all. Vania: Yeah! So whatever comes our way, the two of us are gonna be juuust fine. Count on it!
