The Super Dimension Fortress Macross: Skull Leader (超時空要塞マクロス スカルリーダー Chō Jikū Yōsai Makurosu Sukaru Rīdā) is part turn-based strategy game and visual novel, developed by Family Soft and released on May 1994. It is a sequel to The Super Dimension Fortress Macross: Remember Me and was followed by a spinoff, The Super Dimension Fortress Macross: Love Stories in July 1994 and included in the complete edition, The Super Dimension Fortress Macross: Skull Leader Complete Pack on July 1995.
Overview[]
Like its predecessor, The Super Dimension Fortress Macross: Remember Me, this is a strategy game that follows a linear story that follows the events of the Super Dimension Fortress Macross television series (with the first level beginning in South Ataria Island), while taking design cues from the The Super Dimension Fortress Macross: Do You Remember Love? film.
Unlike the last game where players controlled the tactical functions of the SDF-1 Macross, players now control Valkyrie squadrons as they go against the Zentradi. You are able to outfit various squadrons with a roster of pilots, such as Skull Squadron, Blue Lancers and Brown Hawks, and deploy them throughout an isometric tactical battlefield.
Following these tactical battles, players can "hang out" with classic characters at the SDF-1's bar such as Claudia LaSalle, Misa Hayase. Players can also go to their barracks to have a chat with Roy Focker about the upcoming missions. These sequences are reminiscent of adventure games like Snatcher or a visual novel.
Release[]
While they game never saw a Western release, an English fan-translated version has been made available for the The Super Dimension Fortress Macross: Skull Leader Complete Pack in 2017.[1]
