Nanase Matsuura (松浦 ナナセ Matsu'ura Nanase) is a character that appears in the Macross Frontier television series. She is a waitress at the Nyan-Nyan Chinese Restaurant aboard Island 1 of the Macross Frontier fleet who is the best friend with fellow Nyan-Nyan coworker, Ranka Lee who also attends to Mihoshi Academy with her.
Character & Personality
Nanase is a shy girl who has difficult opening up to others, unlike her friend Ranka Lee. She is often picked on for her large breasts, which she finds to be an inconvenience since she was a child. Many consider her to be the "ideal" woman because of her demure and calm nature. She tries to overcome her indecisiveness and be a more determined person.
History
Nanase went to middle school with Miranda Merin before she then began working at the Nyan-Nyan restaurant with Ranka Lee and the two became fast friends. She later accompanied Ranka to the Miss Macross Frontier beauty contest and was shocked to see the other contestants.
She soon develops romantic feelings for Luca Angelloni who vows to protect her as he prepares to sortie against the Vajra. During an assault by the Vajra, she is gravely injured and Sheryl Nome manages to shield her from harm before she begins singing to the other frightened citizens. Later, Nanase is bedridden while Luca watches over her.
Macross Frontier: The Wings of Farewell
While Nanase doesn't make an appearance in Macross Frontier: The False Songstress, she does appear in the second film as part of Ranka Lee's entourage, serving as her make-up artist and hairstylist.

Ranka Lee
- Ranka is Nanase's best friend who is nicknamed "Nana-chan" for short and they both work together at the colony's branch of Nyan-Nyan.
- In Episode 8, Ranka later transferred to Mihoshi Academy and they soon became classmates, much to Nanase's joy as the two went to different schools and couldn't hang out with each other.

- Nanase cares deeply for Luca, but she is unsure if they should pursue a relationship.
