Overview[]
In the mid to late 90's, there was Macross radio show called "Anime Express" that ran concurrently with the Macross 7 television series. It was primarily a talk show, hosted by Akiko Nakagawa, who voiced the Flower Girl and Sivil.[1] During its broadcast, several series of radio dramas were aired, with each episode consisting of roughly ten minutes, which when combined, formed a feature length story.
Many of these radio dramas were subsequently released as drama albums, such as this series, Macross Generation, The Super Dimension Fortress Macross Inside Story~Macross Classic and the drama album for Macross 7: Trash. The The second Macross 7 drama album, Melodious Illusion, is about a ghost or spirit that lives inside a computer, who tries to influence the Flower Girl.
Plot[]
A storm occurs in City 7, one not originally programmed by the ship's weather system. Unexpectedly, the Fire Bomber Room (FBR) home page is erased from the Pasokla database (City 7's official computer network service). Scientist Panny Tanaka, is called in to clarify why the storm broke out, but he failed to provide a satisfying explanation and simply felt it was just a random phenomenon.
The night after, Flower Girl accesses her computer terminal kit and connects to the FBR home page and chat room, using the username "Flower Girl". A boy who says "Ding Dong" enters the chat and strikes a conversation with her. She gets into a match with the boy and she decides to call him "Ding Dong". It turns out the true identity of this boy is that he is a "computer ghost" generated by the Pasokla network, and that "Ding Dong" was a password connecting the real world and the world in which the computer ghost lives.
The computer ghost desires to be free from merely sending and receiving "selfish" messages, and begins acting out by manipulating the weather system, disables all communication on the Pasokla network. He then takes control of City 7's electric system and shuts down the power grid. Basara Nekki is called in and begins singing, while Flower Girl attempts to combat "Ding Dong" online. They eventually defeat him, allowing him to sleep for good.
