I won't sit here and pretend this is some flawless masterpiece because, to me, there was definitley quite a few things that I could point out that I didn't like. But overall I can't say they bring the film down by much because this is still what I believe to be one of the most bloodcurdling films I've ever seen. And sure as I was watching it there were times where I thought to myself that this first viewing experience in the cinema would be the only way I'd find it scary, in the cinema with no spoilers and no idea of what could happen. Honestly yes I do think that's true and that if I were to rewatch this at my house then I wouldn't get scared at it which is why I'm urging anyone who reads this to go and see this in cinemas while it's still out. Truly unlike any other cinematic experience I've ever had. I'm finding it hard to describe without spoilers what brings the terror to the max here but I think that without Nicolas Cage this film wouldn't be half of what it is. It's debatable whether this can be classed amongst films with similair themes as "just another copy and paste" aside from its incredible marketing, but the inclusion of allot of crime and thriller aspects and of course good old Nic Cage really do elevate this above so many other horror films particularly ones to come out in recent years. I certainly don't think it's the best horror film of the the decade so far hell I don't even think it's the best of the year but I really don't want to say that when it also terrified me throughout and truly kept under my skin, thanks to Nic Cage. I could talk about that man's performance for as long as I live and this has cemented him as my favourite actor. 8.7/10
