I thought the first half of the movie was really great. It had a great slow burn, cinematic visuals, and an eerie vibe and atmosphere. However, I wasn’t quite satisfied with the story as it progressed in the second half because I felt it had a lot of potential to tell more.
Maika Monroe and Nicolas Cage were both excellent in their roles. Monroe was fantastic and probably gave one of the best horror performances of the year, and Cage was creepy in all the right ways.
As regards the detective story, it is not long enough. It’s like watching Fincher’s Zodiac (2007) at its normal length. It really should have been over two hours because I felt there were many pieces of the story missing, and the characters needed more backstory. But maybe that's just my opinion.
Overall, Longlegs is still a fantastic movie due to its amazing film style, direction, visuals, and atmosphere.
