Bodies piling up. A maniac on the loose. A troubled soul, seeking answers from her innermost thoughts.
Longlegs puts its cards on the table as a procedural cop film early, but soon shifts into something much darker. FBI Agent Lee Harker has an inner monologue that heightens her senses and in this murky world of riddles, runes and despair, she uses it to hone in on a trail to the killer.
The colour grading in Longlegs is beautiful indeed, with its grungy tones of sand and ochre that set the tone for the dread to come. Moments of silence among the scratching score lift the tension throughout. A really well made film, with true care for the detail.
Despite the obvious comparisons, this is not Silence of the Lambs, and Monroe/Cage is not Foster/Hopkins. Longlegs is however a solid piece of crime horror and frankly, right up my alley.
