‘Longlegs’ is a masterclass in horror that grips you from the opening scene and doesn’t let go until the credits roll. This film is an atmospheric triumph, delivering a chilling experience that lingers long after you’ve left the theater. From the eerie cinematography to the haunting score, every element of ‘Longlegs’ is crafted to perfection. The use of shadows and lighting creates an unsettling ambiance that keeps you on the edge of your seat. The sound design is equally impressive, amplifying the terror with every creak and whisper.
I can't understand how any horror fan can dislike this movie. ‘Longlegs’ is a complete 180 from your ordinary cheesy jump-scare horror. There's a great, mind-boggling story involved that keeps you guessing throughout its entirety. The suspense of never knowing what’s about to happen, especially with not knowing what the killer looks like from the trailers, is fantastic. To craft a great story in a horror film while avoiding the trap of pointless jump scares is incredible. This film strikes the perfect balance between genuine scares and a bone-chilling experience as it unfolds. It should hopefully mark the beginning of a new era in horror, steering away from recent subpar films. Respect to Oz Perkins for breaking boundaries, and kudos to the actors for making the emotion so palpable throughout.
Nicolas Cage has been saving up for this performance for the last three decades, and it clearly shows. His portrayal of the villain is so intense that people will have nightmares of him for a long time. If you were worried that Nic Cage had calmed down after ‘Arcadian,’ fear not—he’s in top form here. It could be easy to overlook Maika Monroe's performance amidst all the horror, but she has a way of expressing fear without overdoing it, making it far more impactful. She captures pure dread in a way that resonates deeply, complementing the film’s chilling and unsettling atmosphere.
‘Longlegs’ excels in building suspense, with expertly timed scares that will have you jumping out of your seat. The film’s pacing is impeccable, maintaining a relentless tension that never feels forced or overdone. This movie truly scared me in ways I wasn’t expecting, and even the moments of levity come with an uneasy feeling lurking in the background. It's a slow burn filled with dread and eeriness, culminating in a powerful and memorable climax. ‘Longlegs’ is a must-watch for horror fans, offering a thrilling and unsettling experience that will stay with you long after the credits roll. 4.5/5.
