It is a film that’s eager, perhaps too eager, to employ styles, yet the over abundance of which does not translate to any distinct personality.
To treat Longlegs as anything more than just another for-your-entertainment new wave horror flick would be disingenuous, but, even as that, it brings nothing new to the table - it seems, despite its efforts to incorporate imageries that ‘should’ look cool, to still end up achieving nothing beyond simple emulations. Its fascination with the new wave horror filmmaking remains just that: a fascination.
Cage’s performance not only fails to intimidate, but introduces a sense of confusion, something that encompasses many other aspects of the film - from its disjointed, forgettable style palette, to its comically inept writing. 5/10.
