I’m so fucking done with horror movies
This movie prioritizes being scary so much to the point that none of it makes any fucking sense. It’s writing is extremely messy and just quickly jumps from scene to scene without attempting to do much of anything outside of “vibes”
The characters have really bad dialogue that never flows well. This just leads to everyone feeling as one dimensional as physically possible. I literally could not give less of a shit about what happens to any of them.
Nicolas Cage was so over the top in his performance that it fails to be even remotely scary. In fact, it had me laughing more than anything.
So all this stuff was left to the wayside for what? HORROR, that’s all this film exists to be, “the most horrifying film of the year”. The problem is that if the plot is this generic and paper thin your vibes can’t save it. This does do some really interesting things on the visual and auditory fronts; it’s so cool that I’m just mad it’s wasted here. You can’t just act spooky and expect that to carry a whole film.
