Wai-Tung is my son, so you are my son also
I’m seeing the new reimagining at BFI Flare two weeks tomorrow so I had to watch this to prepare
This just made me even more excited omg!!
Watching all of Andrew Ahn's films before I go to The Wedding Banquet at BFI Flare in two weeks!!!
God I loved this, really really funny, like peak queer humour and just a bunch of really sweet romance. I love the found family trope a lot and this captured it in such a perfect way. God I love gay people and their silly little gay friendships (me, I'm gay people).
I love you Erin I'd treat you so well and be a great mother to all your 30 year old gay children
]]>Times a hard for dreamers
I FINALLY watched this. The closest I’ve ever gotten to watching this is when a girl I had a MASSIVE crush on said it was her favourite film, 1 year later here I am finally watching it.
For the record, I dislike
People bending their fingers back
People who cycle on the pavement
And the way your body feels when a plane takes off
I like
Getting a new dvd and putting it in its place in my collection
Watching trailers just for fun
And chopping vegetables
Very crazy sexy time
Hey so I think I’m in love with Sigrit. Rachel McAdams was the most adorable and most beautiful anyone has ever been in a movie ever in this.

]]>After watching Jazzy for the first time I just had to watch this again. I was lonely for it.
God I love this film so much
]]>I hope I never get an unfriending note from you
Morrisa Maltz you’ve done it again, this was absolutely stunning.
Kids written and portrayed like someone who has interacted with a child before, I know that sounds obvious but it’s less common than you think. Their friendship was so easy and perfect when they were together, I loved how everything just picked up how it left. I was also sat SOBBING when they were shouting over the cliff about how they missed each other.
This was just such a perfect progression from The Unknown Country, a film I love so so much. It was also a progression I never would have thought existed but it’s so right for the storyline. Giggling and kicking my feet when Tana showed up I love Lily Gladstone.
We need more films like this, thank you Morrisa Maltz for making this one <3

There's a 5th way out
This was technically and visually beautiful. Opening with some of the prettiest cinematography I've seen since watching A Real Pain back in January. Just truly gorgeous. With this and Presence the POV shot is really growing on me. It does take me a while to get used to and makes me a bit motion sick every so often, but I think it's a really good way to pull us as an audience into the story and hold us there. In this specifically with the POV switching between Elwood and Turner I think it was really great for us to see not only how they viewed each other but how they viewed Nickel Academy and the world outside of it. I think this is what makes the shot in the poster so powerful because it's the only time you see the two boys at once.
The time skips did confuse me at first but once we got more of them I caught on and thought they were really interesting, slowly giving us more and more information. I really did not see the end coming, I thought one of them might die but I was sure it was going to be Turner. I'm going to look into it this was a true story because I'm guessing it's based around true events but not sure if the two boys are fictional or rea people.
Overall a technically strong film but not my favourite of the nominees, and I'm not sure it will win just because of the lack of nominations in the other categories.
]]>Lily Gladstone as a person seems to bring me a lot of comfort and calm, I find myself coming back to this short quite a lot when that's what I need. She just might be the most beautiful, eloquent and interesting person I'm aware of.
]]>So brave to stand up there and talk to him like that
]]>If I had a nickel for ever time I watched one of the 2025 oscar nominated animated shorts in my uni's library and ended up with a stop motion clay penis on my laptop screen I would have two nickels, which isn't a lot but it's weird that it happened twice.
]]>By us, for us
Watched after seeing the amazing Siobhan of popcornsiobhan was in this and omg I'm so glad I was able to watch this. Listening to knowledgeable queer people just talk was amazing, and if I had more knowledge I'd jump at the opportunity to be a part of this. There's something about seeing queer women of any age but specifically older queer women that just brings me so much joy and hope.
So beautifully narrated and shot, I'm recommending this to every person I know, this was so so beautiful.
]]>Goodnight and God bless - Martin Short (2025)
Wow. That was special.
My love for SNL just keeps growing and growing, the recurring characters bring me so much joy, and I'd do absolutely anything to be on that stage during the goodnights.
That Close encounter sketch was so perfect, even with how ridiculous it was the Mulaney Musical almost made me cry, Bronx Beats was so funny as always. My favourite part was weekend update because they brought out three characters from my era of snl (season 35 - 47). Cecily doing her first ever character on weekend update at the 50th anniversary was so special.
I'm not being very eloquent or expressive here I know that, this show just means so much to me and it's hard for me to express just how much.
I love you SNL, thank you
]]>Arrakis is so beautiful when the sun is low
I'm not gonna say much because this just wasn't really for me, but I don't want it to come across like I'm dragging this down because I'm not. I thought it was very well made, the performances were outstanding, the use of sound was incredible plus the production and cinematography of it was incredible. I'm just not a massive of of sci-fi or any sort of action in general so I'll let other people enjoy this and be happy for it when if it wins awards.
]]>I thought this was very well made and very moving so that's what the rating is for.
I'm not really sure what I can say about this other than I'm sorry to everyone who was involved. It's not my place to say whether or not he has changed or does regret it, only he knows that. But two people are dead and their families are left behind, so I'll feel sorry for those and leave it at that.
]]>I'm everything a rock & roll star is meant to be
By complete coincidence I watched this while wearing my Goodbye Yellowbrick Road album tshirt which I realised about halfway through. I absolutely love Elton John and I just loved hearing him talk about his life and career. The way he talks about his songs, stage presence and work really reflects back to the lyric My gift is my song and this one's for you, he just cares for and loves his audience and performing so much, despite what might be for his own good.
As sad as it is that I may have missed my last chance to see his perform, I'm glad he's decided to retire and now has time to spend with his family.
I love you so much Elton John, thank you for sharing your magic with the rest of us.
]]>This was so sweet and wholesome I LOVED IT
I too wish I could eat and sweet that would let me talk to my dog for a few minutes.
]]>A lot darker than I was expecting, my god. The smoothest stop motion I've ever seen it was incredible. I reckon this will win best animated short on Sunday!!!

]]>I’m not currently in the mental state to be able to appreciate this for the art of it so right now it did just upset me. I’m glad I’ve watched this now and I can see where Babygirl may have taken influence but changed the story to make it more of a two way relationship. Maybe I’ll watch this again when I’m in a better headspace for it.
]]>Just a nice and fun film
Went with my friends and we just had a really nice time
My favourite genre of film is just normal, mundane events happening in no particular order with the general structure being towards self discovery and that ticked all of those boxes so I was very happy
Renée Zellweger you will always be famous <3
Perhaps the best cast ever. First time watching this film ON Valentine’s Day because I always forget
I love this film SO much
You didn't invent my sadness
I loved this, so sweet and quiet but packed with so much emotion. Such a perfect way for this little girl to gain closure and comfort during such a difficult time. These girls were giving their all to this performance, you could really tell that. Some beautiful shots of nature and their houses, overall just a really nice film.
Céline Sciamma after Portrait of a Lady on Fire and now THIS, you better check yourself before making me cry again.
]]>Sad, intense and thoughtful. Did lose me a little towards the end but overall pretty good
Fernanda Torres was incredible
Felt wrong to give this a rating since the way it was made is just so personal, like the title says, it's a video diary. This incredible woman managed to stay strong and optimistic throughout 4 long years of hard work and suffering. Some really hard moments in this. I'm glad this has been documented so people can see it and have hope, but the events shouldn't exist to be documented in the first place.

Really sweet, I love anything to do with sisters. I really hope she went to that exam.
That clip at the end of the lead actress watching the film for the first time really made the film, I absolutely loved it
Fun tip - if your older sister is hearing voices, walking into random woods because her "magic" told her to, and talking to snow animations like they can hear and respond to her, maybe don't follow her every idea and action.
I'm kidding I love and would die for Elsa, this is a masterpiece and should be shown at least once a day in every cinema around the world
“My thumper saved him” woah ok dude
]]>Oh to be a water baby asleep on a lily pad. This whole film was gorgeous, I want to go to there
]]>It's got to be good to somebody
My god, I love music from the 60s. Goosebumps from start to end, this was incredible. I am a massive Bob Dylan, Joan Baez and Johnny Cash fan and having the music as the soundtrack as well as his performances felt like watching a film and a song you love is playing over one of the scenes, except it was every scene and every song. I loved the use of Silver Dagger by Joan Baez, one of my three favourites of hers, its such a beautiful song and having it play over scenes showing her popularity in such an overwhelming way just engulfed us in the story.
I didn't know much about Pete Seger or Woody Guthrie going into this, but I left adoring them. Edward Norton gave such a moving and emotional performance, so deserving of that supporting actor nomination. I absolutely love Monica Barbaro, have done for years, so seeing her perform as an artist I love, singing songs I love deep in my bones was so special to me. Timothee was just amazing, truly capturing Dylan's essence and I think he sounded most like him singing Masters of War in that little bar.
I honestly just loved this film, I want to see it again as soon as possible
]]>She’s so cool, I want to be her when I grow up
]]>Bitch thought he was JK Simmons and that little girl was Miles Teller
]]>Can we show someone being shot on live television?
Incredible, like actually incredible.
Fast paced, intense and engaging, just a short 95 minutes that completely engulfs you as soon as you sit down to watch it. I could sense from the beginning of this that I was going to love it (possibly because of one of the first scenes with Fortunate Son by Creedence Clearwater Revival playing over the radio). Something about the look and tone of the film just hooked me immediately.
I thought the cinematography and editing were incredible, especially in some of the scenes where characters would be rushing down hallways, the way it was shot and cut really brought you along with them in their panic and chaos.
After watching it and absolutely loving it I read some reviews, a lot calling this propaganda and pro Israel, but that's not how I viewed this at all. First of all I'd like to say that I have always and always will stand with Palestine, no film or piece of media is ever going to change that. The film not once felt like a political message towards this decade long war. It was much more making a message about the morality and integrity surrounding journalism when covering stories like this dealing with real people. The way they cared about the views, rating and money, rather than the people and the families impacted. This was all highlighted by a brilliant last moment with Leonie Benesch's character Marianne, showing so much remorse for trying to get footage and updates for the wrong reasons.
I think if this film was trying to take a political standpoint while portraying this event they would have opted for following the hostages or the police, following those working at ABC made it way more about the journalism than anything else.
I can't believe this has only one nomination. After watching 2 of the best picture nominees last week I can say that this moved me more and created more of an impact on me and those around me that the two nominees combined. I would have loved to see Leonie Benesch get a supporting nomination for this because she truly held the story together for me, as well as John Magaro's incredible leading performance.
This comes out on Thursday in the UK so if you're able I really urge you to go see it, I'm planning on doing a rewatch double bill with this and Saturday Night because they have such a similar vibe. I love the 70s so so so much can you tell?
]]>The found family film you didn't know you needed
Sweet, subtle and emotional, I'd do anything for that little cat, ANYTHING. Managed to be so hard hitting and put across so much without any dialogue. It was just so sweet.
Pretty score and unique animation style. Great choice of animals to be in this situation. I hope they all coexist happily together now, peaceful and happy. They deserve it.
]]>He didn’t touch his gun
Key point there
He was walking back to his work and got shot for no fucking reason
And his killer got a fucking two day suspension for an unrelated issue
This is fucking foul
We are each a piece of a heart
If everyone is together this is our shape
If one is unbalanced then the shape is broken
It's no longer a heart
What unforgiving instruments we are
Jesus fucking Christ, my fragile, anxiety and stress ridden self could not take this. Ayame I'm so fucking proud of you, if I was there I would have clocked that teacher right between the eyes. Her class teacher was so so sweet, reminded me of the amazing teachers I had who would calm my anxiety and make me feel safe. God I fucking loved this.
]]>1 star deducted for the harmful trans stereotypes
1 star deducted for the harmful Mexican stereotypes
1 star deducted for the disgusting tweets that resurfaced from Karla Sofía Gascón
1 star deducted for the writing
The lowest you can rate is half a star
Half a star added for Zoe Saldaña putting her life and soul into this performance.
This made me seriously angry, it felt unclear and lost throughout. The film never made us care about any of the characters, gave us glimpses of their personalities or connections to each other before just shutting them down and starting another plot point. The plot and character choices made no sense to me at all, and it just made me angry. Bless Zoe Saldaña because she gave everything to this performance, to the point that it felt out of place compared to the other components. I can't believe this is one of the most nominated film in the history of the academy awards, I just can't
]]>Light 'em up
So I'm not a massive Robbie Williams or Take that fan (although Back for good slaps HARD and their jukebox musical Greatest Days was banging) but I went to see this since it's nominated at this year's Academy Awards for Visual Effects. I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised. I enjoyed it and I think my parents would like it, which has to mean something.
The musical numbers were really what sold it for me. The way his songs and singing kept the scenes grounded and almost in one place while the story moved around him, truly powerful and moving, I loved it. I also have a weakness for big dance numbers, so the big production of Rock DJ really made me smile.
I have to say he really didn't come across great in this, that may just be because I'm not a fan to begin with, but still.
All in all, I would watch this again in someone else wanted to, but I wouldn't choose it myself, and I can really see why this was nominated for visual effects because I kept forgetting he was CGI.

Is there a better description of a cube than its construction?
This is going to have a lot of angry ranting about AI to preface.
PART 1:
I absolutely loved the score in this, like I can see myself listening to the main theme quite a bit, it was somehow uplifting while maintaining a lot of power. I thought the cinematography was so beautiful and displayed coming to America from an outside perspective so well. Noticing the little things. I also have a weakness for anything shot in morning light, I love morning light in life and in films.
Although this felt slow, I could tell it was partly intentional, because they were setting up the story, but I didn't feel like whatever they were setting up wasn't resolved in Part 2, to make up for Part 1 being slow.
I appreciated the subtleness of Part 1, how everything happened bit by bit and we got to see him work and see into his brain. He seemed like a quiet genius, something that wasn't reflected at all in part 2.
Part 2:
I didn't like this as much. I found it difficult to follow and I felt like the tone kept shifting in a confusing way. He seemed like a completely different character and this felt like a completely different film. He wasn't a quiet, subtle genius anymore, he was aggressive, self absorbed and just an arsehole out of nowhere. It was dark, slow and confusing to me and it disappointed me after liking the direction part 1 was heading in. I didn't feel like the end resolved anything either, it just left me even more confused.
I can't talk about this film without talking about the AI use. I don't care if you didn't have time to make the art and buildings, I don't care that the language is difficult to sound fluent in, if you've committed to having these elements in your films you either follow through or remove it from the film. AI will ruin the film industry if we just keep letting shit like this slide. The reason we love and appreciate films is the way they display human action and connection. HUMAN!! I hate AI, you're running people out of work and you don't even care. Don't make a film about a struggling fucking artist and use AI in a place where an artist could have worked. It's cruel, lazy and frankly fucking embarrassing. If this wins production design I will be so fucking angry.

What if your best friend came back to haunt you?
Ok wtf guys, that was crazy. This left me in shock for a good few hours because omg.
I absolutely loved this concept, and I thought this being filmed from the perspective of the 'presence' was really interesting (even if it did make me feel a little motion sick). It made us as an audience feel like we were observing this family unravel, watch each individual develop throughout the story.
While watching I couldn't help think about my best friends and how this is exactly how I would act if I was a presence watching over my best friends. Likewise, if they were haunting me, despite my fear of ghosts and anything supernatural, I would not be afraid.
The ending baffled me, because even before he started putting stuff in her drink you could tell something was up with the guy, he was just so strange.
All and all, I loved this and I really want to watch it again, but if I do it'll be at home so it doesn't make me motion sick and dizzy for the rest of the night (let me be clear that is just me not the film)

Everything the light touches, is mine
So after 18 days of not going to the cinema this is what brought me back. AND CHAT WE ARE SO BACK. Your girl cried her fucking eyes out, that's how we know we're back.
Ok so, not this was by no means a masterpiece, but I had fun and that's what counts. You're gonna deny I sleep deprived girl who's gone through three exams and her suitcase being stolen her fun? I don't think so bitch.
Anyway.
I kinda liked the songs, they had early, like In the Heights early, Lin Manuel-Miranda written all over them.
I didn't like that Taka was Scar tho, like the fact that they were so happy and loved each other so much, just to make them hate each other? Hate that. Also fully thought Nala was dead at the start icl, panicked for a second there.
In conclusion, was cute, didn't hate it but probably wouldn't watch it again.
]]>That's what you're supposed to be for me
One day this beautiful movie will be more popular, and Erica Tremblay will get the recognition she deserves, because I think she is one of the best storytellers I have ever witnessed. But for now I'm happy to watch and appreciate this film, and recommend it to anyone who will listen.
