So ceaseless in its simpering and so unfaltering in its whiny delusions that it inadvertently winds up being an incredibly alluring and evocative portrait of one of the most important cultural and political figures of our era. I can't figure out if Ali Abbasi is a total genius or total hack - either way, this is genius.
I'm obsessed with Trump. He fascinates me. I want him to run for Prime Minister. I feel oddly protective of him; the fact…

With First Reformed, The Card Counter and Master Gardener it felt like Paul Schrader was delivering his own eulogy, etching on stone a treatise on what the world was but also what it could be. Oh, Canada is a film about a man so wracked with guilt for getting too much pussy when he was young that he moves to Quebec.
It’s a meandering, muddled trawl of a film: thanks to the performances of Gere and the GOAT Thurman it’s…

Annoying / endearing British character actors lining up for a seat at the table, though a few gags do admittedly land. The little bear’s voice like butter melting on toast!

Eastwood manages to unearth beauty and inspiration from the tragedy of war and the horrors of its aftermath. The machinery of war chewed up Chris Kyle and he dedicated his life to ensuring its victims weren’t left behind.
Insanely moving <3 God bless the troops and God bless America 🇺🇸

A little bit shattered by this deceptively intelligent look at loneliness, urban isolation and the strain distance can have on friendship. A little girl down the row was sobbing and I wasn't far off, though maybe she too found the film to be way too long...
My biggest surprise of the festival so far: kind of awed by this.

“Which means that the human face has not yet found its face and that it's up to the painter to give it one.”
- Antonin Artaud, The Human Face.
Staggeringly good - I felt sick for the whole film, just a low aching in my stomach. But I also thought a lot about my Sephardic grandfather, and how any lineage beyond his name is just blank.
An art film, yes, but an extraordinary one. A death march for the cinema; you can’t help but feel like this is the final form before it all begins anew. What an achievement this is.
