A refresher viewing as I get ready to start reading Kyle Buchanan's book "Blood, Sweat, & Chrome".
Still incredible to view and to contemplate that any of it worked at all: sequel to a long-dormant franchise, recasting of well-known character that made another actor a household name, stunts and effects done as practically as possible, and making more than half the film a full-on chase scene. Easy to say that the latter two are what helped all but the most pissy fans get over the former two. Hardy, Theron, and Hoult (especially Hoult) really killed it in this. Awesome music, stunts, costumes, and character naming* all contribute to making this one a modern, and all-time, classic. Can't wait to see what Miller has planned for the Furiosa film.
*I've been re-reading a bunch of Krakoa-era X-Men books lately, and loved thinking of how the only ones with more ridiculous names than in these films are perhaps the Arakko mutants. Bei The Blood Moon, Tarn The Uncaring, Isca The Unbeaten, Mother Rapture - all could be names of characters in this wasteland.
