Tales of Halloween is a horror anthology that mostly sits on the shitty side of the scale, but it has it's bright spots. Its certainly not as awful as Deadtime Stories or Watch if you Dare, but certainly not great like Creepshow either. This one is more on par with mid level anthologies like Body Bags and that is a shame when considering the solid cast featuring names like Adrienne Barbeau, Lin Shaye, Adam Green, and Barbara Crampton as well…

The 50 Best Horror Movies You've Never Seen 2014
"You are watching 50 Best Horror Movies You've Never Seen" - P.J. Soles
That line of dialogue will be stuck in your head for fifty days after watching this show. That's because she says it before and after every film summary and segment. Sometimes multiple times in a row! This is like one of those early 2000's VH1 shows that would count down things with little factoids and brief summaries from minor celebrities and crew members. Sort of like Pop…

Phoenix Forgotten 2017
Oh look. Another found footage film that's way too drawn out with little to no payoff at the end. This time with "aliens." Too bad we didn't get to see one. While its certainly not the worst found footage flick I've ever seen, there really is nothing special here worth recommending. Nothing. The acting is ok but the characters are forgettable. I wish I had more positive things to say but I can't help but feel I should have dedicated…

Peek a Boo 2017
Saturday Night Shorts: Film 278
A woman pops in an old VHS tape and discovers a terrifying secret.
Peek a Boo is the third of Neil Stevens film that I've seen, with the first two being The Clapper and The Monster. Though I wasn't really much of a fan of The Clapper, there was enough to like about The Monster that it kept me interested in watching another one of his creations. Much like The Clapper, this is a very…

My First Day 2017
Saturday Night Shorts: Film 276
The tale of Anthony's first day at school.
It's been almost a month since my last film review. For the first time in four years I fell short of my annual goal. Sixteen reviews short to be exact. I even had twelve days off from work and still couldn't bring myself to watch a film. I guess I was burned out. Today I am going to try to get back into the swing of things…

Secret Santa 2018
"You tried to kill me, you Robert Redfordy piece of shit!"
A wealthy family meets for the annual Christmas party at the matriarch of the clan's house. None of them seem to like each other much, but it's tradition. One thing they all seem to have in common is their opinion of the Christmas punch. Something doesn't taste right, but they drink it anyway. What they don't know is that someone spiked the punch with a military-grade drug that turns…

Butterfly Kisses 2018
Gavin York is a struggling filmmaker who stumbles upon a box of tapes left behind by two teenagers who were aspiring filmmakers themselves. The box is ominously labeled "DON'T WATCH!" Undeterred, Gavin dives into the roughly forty uncut tapes, piecing them together to complete what the teens never did, eleven years ago. As he delves deeper, he learns the tapes document their investigation into a local urban legend, The Peeping Tom, a supernatural entity said to get closer every time…

Pilgrim 2019
The Barker family is a well-off family in the suburbs who invite Pilgrim reenactors to stay with them for the few days surrounding Thanksgiving. The goal is to teach family unity and experience the hardships of their ancestors. The invited Pilgrims are very serious about their roles, even building their own dwelling in the backyard. The daughter, Cody, has been pampered her entire life and is in her rebellious phase, in which she lashes out against her family and tradition.…

The Clapper 2017
Saturday Night Shorts: Film 271
A young woman receives a package full of gifts from her mother in the mail. One of them is "The Clapper," a once popular device which allows the users to turn whatever is plugged into it on and off with the clap of hands. It doesn't take long for her to realize that this is no normal "as seen on TV" device. This one just might have a mind of it's own....
The Clapper is…

31 DAYS OF HORROR 2024 - Film 33

Don't Look Away is a solid short film that…

The Monster 2019
31 DAYS OF HORROR 2024 - Film 32
Saturday Night Shorts: Film 266
A father and his young son have a tradition of reading a short horror story before bed. This leads the boy to believe that he sees a monster in his room at night.
The Monster is an incredibly well-done short horror film directed by Neil Stevens. The production value is tremendous, maximizing what can be done in three rooms for an awesome presentation. I've seen a few…

Ghost House 2016
31 DAYS OF HORROR 2024 - Film 26
Saturday Night Shorts: Film 265
It's moving day so a family and a group of movers are setting up the boxes and furniture in their new home. A beautiful old house that they got for a suspiciously cheap price. When night falls they quickly discover that what is so beautiful in the light can be just as terrifying in the dark.
Ghost House is an interesting project. It starts of with a…
