Nothing wicked here, it’s all great. The visuals are next level, the music is fantastic with some really fun dance numbers (especially the one set in a library which features some really cool choreography and stylish cinematography, director Jon M. Chu just knows how to craft song and dance numbers that put a smile on your face), the cast is great, with Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Granda nailing their enemies to friends dynamic, and the story being told being a genuinely sweet and emotional ride. I know there are some who will complain about the length, as this is only part one and it runs the same length as the full play, but I found it to be entertaining the whole way through. Really, really surprised with this one and easily recommend checking it out on the biggest, brightest, loudest screen you can find, it’s excellent.
