By far the strongest of the series but that’s not really saying much when the only one giving any effort is Carrey, some of his jokes killed me
]]>The Criterion Challenge 2025:
3. Directed by Robert Altman
Incredibly important coat cinema. Didn’t love this as much as The Player and admittedly I was very distracted/tired while watching but it’s offensive how good this looks. Bleeding out in the snow would be so cool to do as a dude
]]>Best third act chase sequence I’ve seen in ages??
]]>The Criterion Challenge 2025:
2. Watch a film from the year you were born
A camp classic!
]]>The Criterion Challenge 2025:
1. Watch a film from the CC40 Boxset
Character assassination: the movie
If there’s Dumb Bitch Juice around, Carrie’s gonna sip it!
]]>Dare I say it… it’s nowhere near horny enough?
Spent the entire runtime terrified that something bad would happen to the cat and I was so relieved she made it out unscathed.

]]>Features some of the coolest shit I’ve ever seen dudes do in a film, sometimes you just gotta avenge father, save mother and kill Fjölnir.

]]>Despite owning the gorgeous Arrow box set, this was actually my first time rewatching since cinemas because I was terrified it wouldn’t hold up. Thank goodness it did!
]]>So many thoughts. For about an hour of this I was pissed that my best of 2024 list was going to get shaken up with only two days left of the year, but sadly those musical biopic tropes really kicked in for the last 15 minutes and undid some goodwill for me. It’s a shame because despite how by-the-numbers the whole affair is, it’s mostly played with such cleverness and charisma that I found myself not caring that I’d seen these beats before. I feel sorry for my American mutuals who don’t get Robbie Williams, who won’t bawl during the Angels performance and who won’t find themselves somehow perfectly singing along to songs they haven’t heard in 15 years like I did. I’m so mad the dude who made The Greatest Showman actually made a good film. Major props to Williams for playing himself too, the film is pretty unflinching in looking at his demons and that in itself makes Better Man a really interesting character study. How the hell does the CGI monkey in this look better than anything I’ve seen from Mufasa so far
]]>Watched on Sunday December 29, 2024.
]]>Saw about 3 minutes because the theatre messed up and played this instead of Better Man. No music or dialogue were playing, which is a really interesting creative choice from Jenkins. In the end the theatre couldn’t get Better Man to work, but this is now the second time a theatre has accidentally subjected me to a Disney film (2019 Aladdin) instead of the musical biopic I was intending to see (Rocketman). The theatre also switched what screens the films were playing on, so does this mean I’ve technically contributed to Mufasa’s box office?

]]>Nicholas Hoult playing a piece of shit again… oh Skins nation we are so back
]]>Watched the moment I woke up this morning and my mother in law also gave me Peanuts pyjamas as a gift. Merry Christmas to all!
]]>Genuinely don’t even know where to start with this one. The first movie to ever make me throw up!
It’s not as good as the second one, Art is such an eccentric queer icon, I still had a blast but it was really tough to make it to the end. My jaw dropped multiple times. Merry Christmas everyone!
]]>So many thoughts, not many of them nice, but I’m a slave to both tradition and this film that I know is dogshit but I’ll continue to rewatch and love forever
]]>The department store scenes make me piss myself every timeeeeeee
]]>Still terrifying even after 50 years. Actually started watching this last night and was so freaked out I had to finish it during the daytime
]]>Shocked by how much I liked this! Great performances from the leads who also have solid chemistry, and the ridiculous beats you’d expect from a movie like this are still there but they’re glossed over relatively effectively. Major props to the music department also, these songs sound sooo much like that band and they clearly did their homework!
]]>Jesus fucking Christ dude
]]>The friendship bracelet with the acronymed lyrics… my culture is not your fucking costume
]]>All dumb action movies should aim for the coveted ‘three stars and a heart’ letterboxd rating. 15 years ago Mark Wahlberg would’ve been the lead and this would’ve made $400 million at the box office
]]>Terrible. Miss Charlotte York we need to get you out of here
]]>I knew the twist but it still didn’t prepare me!
You know how when people lose a limb, they can feel the phantom limb? Girly manifested herself a whole-ass phantom hottie
This is Joker for girls
]]>Watching my mum absolutely adore this and cry through the whole thing was such a special experience and yeah sure I’m gonna bump my rating!
]]>Imagining myself doing this with one of my students that I hate and this movie instantly becomes a horror
]]>Genuinely baffled by how a film that thinks it has so much to say ends up holding its characters in such contempt, not only are the circumstances they find themselves in upsetting but the directors execution itself appears hardwired to offput and irritate. Nor the characters nor the audience are allowed to have a good time here. Zoe Saldana and Karla Sofía Gascón are great though!

]]>Dad kept asking ‘how many costume changes does she want to have’
]]>I know most of the buzz for this is around Kieran Culkin’s amazing performance, and rightfully so, but I think Eisenberg’s writing is some of the strongest of the year? What a beautifully tragic film
]]>Yes I’ve watched it twice in 36 hours, no I don’t care, yes I’ll be watching it another 5 times this Christmas
]]>Watch number 2 of probably 7 for this holiday season
]]>I NEED CHAPPELL AND SABRINA PERFORMING LAST CHRISTMAS ON SPOTIFY RIGHT. FUCKING. NOW.
]]>I’m confused… I thought the leads of a romcom were meant to be charming? What got lost in translation here? Kristin Chenoweth innocent though, as always

]]>Watched on Tuesday December 3, 2024.
]]>Ok so this is kinda what I was expecting the series to be from the get go, this is a step down from the geeky sci fi romance perfection of the original but the set pieces are absolutely out of this world! Linda Hamilton’s glow up between films should be studied in schools, I don’t think anyone’s ever looked that good on screen ever??
]]>The hardest I’ve cried in a film all year. Absolutely beautiful!
]]>Regina George walked so Cardinal Lawrence from Conclave could run
]]>You know what? This was cute!
]]>Worth watching for the inexplicable opening credits alone, which features (I kid you not) a montage of major pop culture moments over the past decade - none of which have anything to do with the film - set to Calvin Harris’ ‘Summer.’
]]>Watched on Thursday November 28, 2024.
]]>Literally what the fuck is this movie it’s the most nonsensical thing I’ve ever seen**
I had a blast, got very teary in places, Cruise is literally magnetic, the babysitter calling himself a ‘child technician’ sent me into the stratosphere
]]>I’m obsessed with Hydraulic Press TikTok so imagine my pure glee in the third act! I know I’m very late and preaching to the choir but this shit rocks
]]>This came out of nowhere and I loved it! Should be getting the hype Lisa Frankenstein got tbh
]]>Sometimes a film is just primarily a vehicle for some really good lead performances and that’s ok! It glides by without much friction despite how inherently sad the story is, hits all the beats it needs to and left me appropriately weepy. Reminds me very much of The Outrun in that there’s nothing particularly bad about it, but it’s just kind of there.
