Oh god , well, first of all, this film stands out as the most ambitious we've ever seen in Quebec cinema and i'd go even further: it's the best psychological thriller of 2023 and of the last few decades, and i'm not just saying that because it's my home. It deals with both the unhealthy, morbid fascination of our voyeuristic societies with serial killers and the trafficking of humans for perverse purposes in this curiosity goes far too far, and also in the background of isolation by technology. The script is complex, and above all, the incredible aestheticism of the artistic direction is unbelievably insane.
We follow the trial of a ruthless, brutal killer who has inflicted the worst atrocities…

I guess she didnt like the ghost joke

Much can and has been said about the ongoing desensitisation to true crime, the continual-centred interest in real-life atrocious cases that frequently starts out as morbid curiosity and grows into voyeuristic obsessions with delving deeper and deeper into the lowest of human crimes. This is (and I don’t mean to exaggerate) an astonishing dissection of true crime superfan culture. continuous journey into the fall of a woman's psyche when everything else feels rudimentary and lonely - the grip of curiosity towering over her when the only personality nearby is a computer-generated program delivering jokes and collecting statistics.
A disregard for humanity, not only from our central character but also via the sensationalism in the media or from the other withdrawn…

💥 Horror/Thriller 💎 Hidden Gem #100 | 🏆 2023 Ranked Tie #1
This film is going to be a thing. Don't sleep on this one.
I read this won Cheval Noir Award for Best Feature at Fantasia 2023. I did not know that until just now. In fact, I had no idea what I was getting into—I just saw this and had a good feeling about it and here we are. It's best if you don't know what you're getting into either. Nonetheless, I will say a little more in case you're not sold.
If you took Demonlover and added a police procedural plus the polish and playful hackeryness of David Fincher's version of Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, you might…

In the very first scene of this movie-- a long, single take that encompasses the opening proceedings of a murder trial-- you are told about a series of unspeakably heinous murders. You are told in explicit detail not just the nature of the torture and killing, but even worse that the killer recorded each of them to be live streamed on a dark web pay per view snuff stream. You are told that the videos will be shown in court as part of the trial. Your knowledge of the existence of these videos and what's on them colors every frame of this movie. Yet, the fact the film never allows your knowledge of this to be contained by *actually* showing…

An indictment of the voyeurism and loneliness of our chronically online existence. Our empathy as a species is inversely proportional to our internet speed. We wake up, log on to millions of people around the world, likely succumb to misanthropy or self-loathing, log out.
Hustle, grind, work out, protein shake. Try to shake off the dread of losing the hazy memory of the last human being you hugged, looked in the eye and sincerely listened to.
Our protagonist is successful, fit, great with computers—she trades crypto and hustles online poker players for cash but models on the side. She doesn’t need the money, she likes to have her photo taken, to be noticed in a safely anonymous way.
She waits…

Deux personnages se croisent du regard et j'ai la plus grosse chair de poule depuis un bon moment.
Je me demandais c'était quoi son fond d'écran et le nom qu'elle utilise en ligne. Et bien, je vous laisse ma recherche à deux cennes:
“The Lady of Shalott” is a poem that explores themes of isolation, confinement, art, and the desire for freedom. It is a meditation on the human condition and the way that we sometimes feel cut off from the world and unable to fully engage with it.
Saprement intéressant dans le contexte du film, non?

A totally twisted, pitch-black study of obsession in the digital age that goes places it knows it shouldn't. Not only one of the best horrors of 2023, but one of the best films of 2023 so far.
