Early Life

Long ago, the Dark God of Sloth and Violence, Wolbach, was defeated and split into two parts, which were then imprisoned within a complex sealing stone. One of the entities was Wolbach, who represented the aspect of Sloth; and the other one was the creature that would become Chomusuke, a violent black beast that represented Violence. The sealing stone was eventually taken to the Crimson Demon Village and placed at the Tomb of the Dark God, since the Crimson Demons wanted to use it as a tourist attraction.

Around eight years before the main series, a young Megumin played with the complex sealing stone as a puzzle toy, and accidentally released Wolbach and Chomusuke. However, as soon as they were released, Chomusuke, while in her true form, a giant black beast, went out of control and tried to attack Megumin. In order to protect her, Wolbach used Explosion to defeat the beast and saved Megumin. She then drained the beast of most of its power and size, turning it into a small cat. After doing so, Wolbach also resealed Chomusuke in order to be released at a later time.

School Days Arc

Seven years later, Komekko, Megumin's much younger sister, who didn't have any proper toys either, also solved the sealing stone easily, before unsealing the black cat again after offering up a chicken-and-egg rice bowl as a sacrifice. In her weakened state though, the cat despite trying to go for the rice bowl was no match against Komekko, who brought her back home to become a family meal before being adopted as Megumin's familiar, following which she became a much-loved mascot of the other students at school, and was temporarily named "Kuro" by Yunyun.

When Megumin regularly brought Kuro to school to keep her safe from Komekko's predations, the cat soon became the target of the servants of the Dark God (which in the anime were initially Gargoyles) who sought to capture her. Things came to a head after the villagers' failed attempt to reapply the seal at the Tomb, which saw the village assaulted by flocks of the Demons out looking for Kuro.

During the attack, Kuro was taken by one of the Demons to the Tomb, where Komekko tried to scare the monsters into releasing her. After Yunyun learned Intermediate Magic and began attacking the Demons, Kuro was freed and took shelter at her side, then stood vigil over the fallen girls following Megumin's Explosion that wiped out the Demons. Subsequent to Megumin and Yunyun's graduation, upon Megumin deciding to make Kuro truly her familiar, the cat was renamed "Chomusuke".

Journey to Axel Arc

Chomusuke was carried around by Megumin during her days of searching and performing odd jobs around the village, until Arnes managed to find her at Megumin's home. She however refused to leave Megumin's side even after her master agreed to sell her, so when Arnes returned the following morning as Yunyun came looking for Megumin, Chomusuke struggled to escape once handed to Arnes, and in the process exposed her identity as a Demon, which ended with Chomusuke remaining by Megumin's side subsequent to Arnes being chased off.

Following Megumin to Arcanletia (with Yunyun in the anime), Chomusuke stayed by their side throughout their investigations with Cecily over the Gelatinous Slime in the city's hot springs and Zesta's subsequent release. She was then targeted again by Arnes, though the issue was quickly solved when the Demon got chased off by the fanatics of the Axis Order.

Later riding alongside Megumin and Yunyun on a caravan headed for Axel, Chomusuke sat out with Megumin during an attack by Giant Earthworms on the highway. Then when the caravan set up camp that night, she was kidnapped by a Giant Bat before being rescued by Yunyun. The next day as Arnes launched her attack on the caravan upon it nearing Axel, Megumin threw Chomusuke into the air where Arnes caught her. She accordingly struggled to escape while Arnes prepared a spell to kill Megumin, who was prevented from retaliating by a Yunyun worried about it killing Chomusuke too. The cat managed to slip out of Arnes' hands when the Demon was distracted by Aqua's divine aura as the goddess descended onto Axel, and was consequently caught by Yunyun before hitting the ground, which gave Megumin the opening to obliterate Arnes with Explosion.

Irregular of Axel Arc

Mostly hanging around Megumin while she tried, and failed, to secure herself a party with the Axel adventurers, Chomusuke was left at the inn on the day Megumin and Yunyun went out questing together, where she was starved until losing consciousness.

A week later when Chomusuke was again left in Megumin's inn room while her master joined the Guild's quest against Host, she got taken care of by Cecily who managed to sneak into the room. Chomusuke subsequently joined Megumin and Cecily's search for Aqua, though upon them being spooked out of the cemetery by Wiz she had to find her way back herself. Cozying up to Megumin's cloak the following day, the cat was once more left at the inn when Megumin and Yunyun joined Rex's party to capture a Beginner's Bane.

Later that day, after having Megumin and Yunyun debate the topic of handing her over to Host, Chomusuke got tied by Megumin onto a toy black cat, so that her smell will rub off onto the stuffed toy which will be used as bait to lure the Demon out, before she got handed to Cecily for safekeeping. She later returned to Megumin's side subsequent to everything being settled.

Deep Winter Arc

One day when Chomusuke was brought on an outing by Megumin with Kazuma in tow, a hooded figure suddenly grabbed her before making off, though the catnapper didn't get very far thanks to Kazuma's tricking nearby townsfolk into going after him. Subsequent to the catnapper who revealed himself to be a Demon working for Wolbach taking Darkness hostage though to no effect, the cat too was affected by the Exorcism blasted at him by Aqua. Chomusuke then was used by the Demon as a hostage to facilitate his escape, but eventually got Stolen by Kazuma to safety before Megumin cast Explosion on the catnapper.

Late Winter Arc

Chomusuke got officially introduced by Megumin to Kazuma and Aqua during the period Darkness was absent from their mansion, and subsequent to expressing loathing at Aqua by attacking whenever the goddess of water tried to approach her, displayed her fire breathing abilities only in the sight of Kazuma to whom she cozied up to. She later tagged along in some of their adventures as a sideline observer, though at some point Kazuma tried training her to steal Megumin's panties.

Early Spring Arc

Following the construction of the kotatsu, Chomusuke spent a lot of her time lazing on top of its warm surface throughout the cold days. Afterwards she accompanied the party on some of their quests, and later on their vacation with Wiz (whose big breasts the cat liked to play with) to Arcanletia. Back at the city of water and hot springs, Chomusuke went with Megumin to revisit the Axis main cathedral, though upon returning to their inn some hours following, she became one of the projectiles thrown by Megumin at Kazuma during their battle between the women's and mixed-bathing hot springs (which she actually enjoys in the anime). She mostly tagged alongside Megumin like a mascot during their adventures since.

At some point during the period, Chomusuke was dressed up by Megumin so she could be presented to an herbivorous Beginner's Bane with crimson eyes as a mate, though neither showed interest in the other.

Magical Stones Arc

After Aqua picked up a glassic shard in front of the neighbourhood ruins, like Megumin Chomusuke also detected the strong magical powers it had emitted. During the party's subsequent search for the magical stones, Chomusuke mainly tagged alongside Megumin who used her as an excuse to get an extra share of magical stone, though when the party was enjoying crab pot following their journey into the research facility under the ancient ruins, she actively tried to drink bubbly before getting distracted by playing with the crab claw that Kazuma gave her. The next day, in preparation for their later journey to the snowfield forest, Megumin stuffed Chomusuke into her clothes to act as a small heater, though upon her proudly taking the cat out to show her party members, Chomusuke got into another row with Aqua.

Black Slab Arc

Tagging alongside Megumin for the majority of the time, Chomusuke was one of the first to warn Kazuma about Darkness turned into a sadist by the curse of the Black Slab. When it became Megumin's turn to be cursed into enjoying being a flat-chested girl, Chomusuke upon detecting the abnormality kept away from her, up until Megumin's curse was broken by the Pure Doll.

Subsequent to Aqua uncovered as an unwitting accomplice to the man in black robes, Chomusuke was used as a weight to sit on the seizaing Aqua's lap as Kazuma's means of punishment for the useless goddess. The cat later proved her usefulness when during the party's night ambush on the man in black robes as he broke into their mansion, she jumped and clawed at the fleeing man to stop his escape, which gave Kazuma the opening for Binding him.

After everything was settled with Megumin having tested out enough numbers of various clothes, Aqua got mad at Chomusuke always clawing at her while cozying up to Kazuma and Megumin, so she handed the cat to Yunyun, sprouting a lie that Megumin had wanted her to look after Chomusuke for a few days. Yunyun who soon became uneasy due to the time period being unspecified decided to bring Chomusuke back to the party's mansion when a number of days passed, where the cat was reunited with a relieved Megumin dressed in a cat god outfit, following which Megumin tried talking to her in cat speech, or she hung onto Megumin's bathtowel in a precarious position after they emerged from the bathroom right in front of Kazuma.

Mid Spring Arc

Chomusuke was brought along by Megumin on their trip back to the Crimson Demon Village, where she again met with Komekko and Megumin's old classmates. Despite staying close to Megumin most of the time, Yuiyui had made sure that the cat wasn't in the bedroom whenever she Locked Kazuma and Megumin inside, and during Sylvia's rampage Chomusuke got evacuated with Komekko who still viewed her as food.

When Chris afterwards visited the party's mansion and tried to pet her, Chomusuke responded by clawing at the Thief whom like Aqua she instinctively disliked in addition to rejecting Darkness' at a lesser extent, before cozying up to Kazuma once more. Subsequent to Darkness later coming back home with a caged Fairy, the cat began eyeing it predatorily, following which she got held back by Kazuma for the duration of the Fairy's stay.

Cursed Relic Arc

For the duration of most of the period, Chomusuke simply stayed by Megumin's side during her travels, and at the end also took part in enjoying warabi mochi.

Late Spring Arc

At some point during the period, Chomusuke was left to play with Kazuma in the mansion's yard, during which he asked a series of questions about her true nature. After Megumin and Yunyun returned from an Explosion session, the cat proceeded to breathe lightning at a cricket, before chasing away another cat by spitting fire.

Early Summer Arc

Chomusuke on the day after Darkness left the mansion during dinner for seeing Alderp was groomed by Kazuma, who asked of her to turn back into a pretty cat-eared girl, before hearing him mock the returned Darkness. Subsequent to Kazuma shutting himself inside the mansion during the ensuing days of rain, Chomusuke thoroughly enjoyed the petting he gave her, until she became the object of a snatching contest between him and Megumin when her owner wanted to go fight the Kowloon Hydra.

Mid Summer Arc

Following the birth of Emperor Zel, Chomusuke continuously cowered away from the newborn chick because he released astounding levels of magical power.

Late Summer Arc

Chomusuke was one night taken by Megumin to Kazuma's room when the Crimson Demon wanted to confess about her true identity as a Dark God, but the cat was then handed to Kazuma for keeping him company while sleeping. The violent half of the Dark God was also used sometime during the period in a gig on the streets, where she gets attacked by Chris the "evil Eris follower" before Cecily shows up to heal her with the powers of the Axis Order, though the whole time Chomusuke had to be held down by Megumin for healthily squirming about.

Bullied by some children in a park many mornings later, Chomusuke was picked up by Yunyun and taken back to the mansion. A couple of days afterwards, she was brought along by Megumin on a journey of the party plus Yunyun towards a fort defending the royal capital, and happily strolled with Yunyun on the road towards their destination.

On the day after the gang's arrival at the fort, Chomusuke as the others went to ambush her other half in a nearby patch of woods excitedly followed along, then began struggling in the grip of Yunyun once Wolbach approached the fort for the daily Explosion. When an incensed Wolbach marched up to the gates of the fort after days of futilely blowing the place up, Chomusuke was carried in Megumin's hands as the gang assembled on the walls, where she was finally identified by her other half, though her attempts to approach Wolbach were thwarted by Megumin. Days later when Wolbach was wounded by Kazuma's tinymite, the aspect of violence turned restless as she began absorbing the essence from the weakened aspect of sloth. Chomusuke was later carried by Kazuma as he and Megumin went to parley with Wolbach, whose ensuing destruction by the chantless Explosion of Megumin imbued the cat with all her power and essence. She proceeded to cuddle up with Kazuma on the gang's way back from the fort, and displayed more of Wolbach's traits when joining him in the bath.
