- "Grandfather! Stop messing around!" [1]
Sun Daiyu is the granddaughter of Dr. Sun, and the identical twin sister of Sun Mingmei, one of the students on Castle Wulfenbach. It is unknown if Daiyu had also spent time as a student there. Daiyu was first seen bringing Captain Vole to see her grandfather after he had retrieved the head of General Selnikov.
Daiyu’s sparkiness has not been established.
Behind the scenes[]
Daiyu was born of a ‘minor mistake’ by Professors P Foglio and K Foglio. Daiyu was supposed to be her sister Mingmei, but they forgot that they had given her a name on the cast page. After some thought, and a poll of the Live Journal readers, it was decided that Daiyu would be Mingmei’s previously unknown twin sister.[2] Evidently,[3] the name Daiyu comes from that of a character in the classic Chinese novel Dream of the Red Chamber.
Novelization[]
Airship City names the character on Castle Wulfenbach Sun Ming (p. 114), while this Sun Daiyu character in Voice of the Castle is named Sun Ming Daiyu, MD, PhD. (p. 196, note 42). It goes on to say that she was (indeed) raised aboard Castle Wulfenbach, and even that she met Agatha there. No mention is made of a twin sister in either book, hence we may conclude that the sisters have been folded back into a single character.
The note also mentions that she is the daughter of the Wulfenbach ambassador to the Court of China.
