Where Do I Belong is a deleted song from the 2019 remake of The Lion King.
Background[]
It was originally going to be sung during the part where Simba gets exiled from the Pride Lands after he lost his father who died in a wildebeest stampede, thanks to Scar's devious plan on trying to impress him in roaring, but instead was released as a single by JD McCrary on October 3, 2019. A music video of McCrary was also released on October 22, 2019.
The song itself is about an insecure Simba feeling that he is too afraid to return to the Pride Lands under Scar's orders while being unsure if he should return or not, believing that his mother Sarabi would be upset for leaving and abandoning his own father during the stampede and also thinking that she would scold him for betraying his own family.
Lyrics[]
I let you down
I should have listened
Just wanted to prove to you
That I was strong
Now I can't turn around
There's no going back now
But what lies ahead for me?
And where do I belong?
Now, I'll never be king like you
'Cause I don't know how
I'll ever make it through
My life feels empty now that you're gone
Disgraced my pride, I'm scared to go home
No one to turn to, I'm so alone
Where do I belong? (Where do I belong?)
Wish I could change this reality
What does my mother think about me?
I'm lost and have no family
Where do I belong?
I belong...
As I look around
I keep having visions
Of moments I've shared with you
Running through my head (You said...)
You said you'd always be there for me
Up in those stars
With all of the greatest kings
My life feels empty now that you're gone
Disgraced my pride, I'm scared to go home
No one to turn to, I'm so alone
Where do I belong? (Where do I belong?)
Wish I could change this reality
What does my mother think about me?
I'm lost and have no family
Where do I belong?
I can't go home
I'm all alone
Will I make it on my own?
My own
(My life feels empty)
Now that you're gone
(Disgraced my pride)
And I'm scared to go home
(No one to turn to)
I'm so alone
(Where do I belong?)
Where do I belong?
Tell me, "Where do I belong?"
