Professor Huyang is an ancient droid professor that appears in the Star Wars franchise. For generations, he taught Jedi younglings how to construct their Lightsabers.

Background[]

An ancient droid dating back hundreds or thousands of years, but still quick of mind, Huyang oversaw the construction of lightsabers in the Jedi Order for centuries. After the fall of the Republic and the Jedi, his databanks remain a repository of ancient Jedi lore, including an exacting record of every lightsaber constructed under his supervision. A storied architect and professor, during the Clone Wars Huyang was based out of the training vessel Crucible, where he guided younglings in the art of saber construction as part of their journey to become Padawans. He continued to be operational after the end of the Jedi Order, surviving through the rise and fall of the Empire, to see the dawn of the New Republic.

Physical appearance[]

Huyang is a Mark IV architect droid. He has four arms and a magnifying glass attached above his right eye.

Role in the Series[]

Huyang first appears in "Tipping Points" where Ahsoka introduced the younglings to him. Though Ganodi wasn't surprised that he was a droid and wondering what he was gone to teach them. Huyang told her that he had teach many Jedi all over the years and will teach them how to build their lightsabers. He was amazed to see Gunghi was a wookiee and was rare for a wookiee to be a jedi. Huyang display a hologram of Lightsabers and ask how they would they make their lightsaber and switch one they would choose.

Trivia[]

  • The 2022 novel Brotherhood alluded to David Tennant's past role as the Tenth Doctor in the British science fiction series Doctor Who, saying that "Professor Huyang was so old that the ancient droid supposedly arrived at the Jedi Temple in a big blue box thousands of years ago." In the series, The Doctor is an ancient being who travels in a special time machine that outwardly looks like a blue police box from the 1960s.
