Erdman "Ed" Heinrich Penner was a Canadian screenwriter and songwriter, who worked with many writers at Disney Studios, such as Ted Sears, Winston Hibler, William Cottrell, Bill Peet, and Perce Pearce.
Penner was born on January 17, 1905 in Saskatchewan, Canada, but moved the U.S. where he began work with Disney in the late 1930s with Mickey Mouse shorts before moving up to feature films, like Pinocchio, Melody Time, Cinderella, Lady and the Tramp, and Sleeping Beauty.
An occasional musician, Penner played the saxophone, tuba, and violin, as well as wrote songs for some of the films he was writing. He was the original bass saxophonist and tuba player for the Firehouse Five Plus Two.
By the time Lady and the Tramp was in production, Penner had been promoted to associate producer, however, he died on November 10, 1956; nearly over a year after his promotion.
