OMG I can’t believe someone chose my Liquorstore font to spell out a poem all over a skyscraper in Antwerp! This picture is six years old but I just found out about it today. Isn’t that an incredible building? The words are a poem about how this modern building is in love with a cathedral nearby. Wow, so surreal and impressive.
And what’s up with that KBC changed to ABC up on top? So fantastical.

well, here’s a pic of all the most popular words I’ve used at chank.wordpress.com for the last 4 years or so. looks like it all boils down to “USE COLOR TYPE FONTS, PEOPLE!”
it is so fun & easy to make a “word cloud” at http://wordle.net ! It is a fun and easy design tool that makes a word cloud out of the text you submit. or you can submit a website, like I did with my blog. so cool to see a few years of my words boiled down to one pretty typographic word picture!

What started as a nice little introduction to two new font technologies turned into something much bigger. I wanted to write a simple, informative blog post to introduce people to Typekit and Kernest. I thought you should know a bit more about the exciting new capabilities of @font-face specification in modern browsers. But as I began writing it, I found the issue of web-font-embedding was much more complicated than I had previously thought. So it turned into a great, big, informative essay called The Sad State of Today’s Web Typography: Fertile Ground for Font License Revolution. It’s up at Chank.com now, but feel free to post responses and comments here.

Thanks to Core for sending in these Chank Font sightings from Stockholm, Sweden. Chunder promotes a Chaplin event. Sauerkrauto shows off the numbers in bus-stop posters for a charity/third world organization. And check out the freefont classic bitmap font Oh La La, teaching you how to type smileys on the back of a Swedish milk container. Oh La La!

I’m hosting a spontaneous “pop-up” art show of my art prints this weekend during Art-A-Whirl in Northeast Minneapolis. One weekend only.
I’ll be showing brand new canvas prints at a place I like to call the “Space for Lease” gallery. It’s an available storefront at 1228 NE 2nd St. That’s on the corner of 2nd St & 13th Ave NE, right next to the Frank Stone Gallery.
My new inkjet prints on canvas are just a small part of an art-filled, family-friendly weekend. Art-A-Whirl is this weekend, Fri 5-8, Saturday 12-8 and Sunday NOON-5. For more info on the event visit the Art-A-Whirl site.
Take a stroll through the heart of the Minneapolis Arts District and see the work of hundreds of local artists. Whirl past my show as you saunter a mile-long stretch from the Grain Belt Keg House on the banks of the Mississippi on up to the “art-factory” site of the Nothrup-King Building. Along the way there’ll be lots of galleries, open studios, music, food, drinks and random art events everywhere.
It’s this weekend only and the weather’s looking pretty great. Hope to see you there!
