The numbers you see here are being auctioned off to raise money for The Starry Night Collective. These numbers are the original artwork for the new font Ballers Delight, which is a free download at Chank.com. Ballers Delight was created by a group of 50 designers working together at a fontmaking workshop at the HOW Design Conference in Atlanta, GA on June 10th. The font was officially released at Chank.com on June 22nd.
This is a rare chance to own a little piece of typographic history, an individual original glyph from a real computer font. The numbers will be offered via silent auction at Les Rues de Montmartre, the first annual fundraising gala for The Starry Night Collective. The event takes place this Sunday, June 24 at Nicollet Island Pavillion in Minneapolis.
Minneapolis fontmaker Chank Diesel, Soul Asylum’s Dave Pirner and others will be contributing artwork to be auctioned off at Les Rues de Montmartre, the first annual fundraising gala for The Starry Night Collective. The event takes place this Sunday, June 24 at Nicollet Island Pavillion in Minneapolis.
In addition to Chank & Dave, other artists featured in the benefit art show include Amelia Biewald, Tara Costello, Keegan Wenkman, Amy Rice, Jen Davis, Terrence Payne, Keiko Yagishita, Ingrid Restameyer, Teri Anvid, Dan Buettner, John Diebel, Scott Neff, Ruben Nusz, Christie Furnas, Yuri Arajs and more.
Come join us at the magically transformed Nicollet Island Pavilion for a stroll through the infamous Parisienne neighborhood of Montmartre, the centuries-old enclave of artists, musicians, street performers, characters and those wonderful sidewalk cafés. Sip a glass of wine while being serenaded by a sultry accordionist, and enjoy roaming jugglers, fire eaters and other feisty French rogues.
The Starry Night Collective is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to deliver arts programs to students who have been excluded from mainstream education because they exhibit emotional or behavioral disorders (E/BD). These students are typically segregated into restrictive educational settings that severely limit their opportunities for art experiences—experiences that are perhaps the most important learning modality for students with E/BD.
Shown below is the big piece of Chank art which will be offered at silent auction. The acrylic painting on wood is entitled “#11880: Hand in the Air” and measures 24″ x 48″.

Work has commenced on a new “gloss-n-floss” photo font. Alphabet letters were created by 50 workshop participants at an event hosted by the HOW Design Conference in Atlanta, GA. Drawing from the region’s rich hip-hop heritage, a flashy new display font was created. The workshop was coached by alphabetician Chank Diesel and awards were given to the best letters. Art supplies were contributed by Penco. The art for the font will be auctioned off to raise money for children’s charities. Fontification from Photoshop to Fontlab is currently underway. We’ll keep you posted.
