November 4, 2014 |
Governor • Lieutenant Governor • Secretary of State • Attorney General Down Ballot Auditor |
One down ballot state executive position was up for election in the state of Minnesota in 2014. The lone down ballot office on the ballot in 2014 was the Minnesota State Auditor. The general election took place on November 4, 2014.
Rebecca Otto (D) was seeking re-election to the office and faced a well-funded primary challenge from former state legislator Matt Entenza (D). The general election featured Republican Randy Gilbert, Libertarian Party candidate Keegan Iversen, Grassroots Party candidate Judith Schwartzbacker and Independence Party candidate Patrick Dean. Otto won election to another four-year term.
A primary election is an election in which registered voters select a candidate that they believe should be a political party's candidate for elected office to run in the general election. They are also used to choose convention delegates and party leaders. Primaries are state-level and local-level elections that take place prior to a general election. Minnesota utilizes an open primary system, in which registered voters do not have to be members of a party to vote in that party's primary.[1][2][3]
For information about which offices are nominated via primary election, see this article. The primary election was held on August 12.
