Nevada down ballot state executive elections, 2014
June 10, 2014 |
November 4, 2014 |
Governor • Lieutenant Governor • Secretary of State • Attorney General Down Ballot Treasurer, Controller |
Two down ballot state executive positions were up for election in the state of Nevada in 2014. The two down ballot offices on the ballot in 2014 were the Nevada Treasurer and the Nevada Controller. The general election took place on November 4, 2014.
Voters in Nevada were tasked with picking new officeholders for both positions, as term limits prevented incumbents Kate Marshall and Kim Wallin from seeking re-election to the treasurer and controller's offices, respectively. Dan Schwartz (R) won the race for the treasurer's office against Kim Wallin (D) and Kress Cave (I) in the general election. The race to replace Wallin at the controller's office included Ron Knecht (R), Andrew Martin (D) and Tom Jones (I). Knecht defeated Martin and Jones to replace Wallin in the controller's office.
A primary election is an election in which registered voters select a candidate that they believe should be a political party's candidate for elected office to run in the general election. They are also used to choose convention delegates and party leaders. Primaries are state-level and local-level elections that take place prior to a general election. Nevada has a closed primary system, in which the selection of a party's candidates in an election is limited to registered party members.[1][2]
