Connecticut down ballot state executive elections, 2014
August 12, 2014 |
November 4, 2014 |
Governor • Lieutenant Governor • Secretary of State • Attorney General Down Ballot Treasurer, Controller |
Two down ballot state executive positions were up for election in the state of Connecticut in 2014. The two down ballot offices on the ballot in 2014 were the Connecticut Treasurer and the Connecticut Comptroller. The general election took place on November 4, 2014.
Incumbents Denise L. Nappier (D) and Kevin Lembo (D) ran for and won re-election to the treasurer and comptroller offices, respectively.[1] They both faced Republican opponents, while Green Party candidate Rolf Maurer was the third candidate in the comptroller race.
A primary election is an election in which registered voters select a candidate whom they believe should be a political party's candidate for elected office to run in the general election. They are also used to choose convention delegates and party leaders. Primaries are state-level and local-level elections that take place prior to a general election. Connecticut utilizes a closed primary system, in which only registered party members may vote in a party's primary. However, Connecticut state law allows parties to decide whether unaffiliated voters can vote in their primary before each election.[2][3][4]
